The got this one during the first few months following Goldsmith's death. It was a combination of "hurry and get as much as you can before they sell out" (which thankfully didn't happen) and the need to have a lot of "new" Goldsmith during that time. I never saw the film, but it wasn't exactly a blind buy. The Jerry Goldsmith at Fox box sold me on a LOT of his early work, since I was primarily familiar with only the scores from the latter part of his career. But once I heard them, I went nuts for his older scores. Hence the "Oldsmith" user name. 100 Rifles was a big part of this awakening (along with The Sand Pebbles, Rio Conchos, and Studs Lonigan). I enjoy the mono and stereo cues pretty much equally. I don;t visit it often, but when I get the Goldsmith bug, this is one CD that getssome spin time.

In terms of sound (which matters most, right?), LLL — due to source materials it’s not as dramatic an improvement over the original FSM as Mike Mattesino was able to do for the Kritzerland master of Rio Conchos (reprised here too). But it’s noticeable. The artwork too is an improvement. On the other hand I will always hold onto my FSM edition for the far superior detailed liner notes… if that’s something you care about. (I know a lot of film music fans don’t care as much about those and just want the music.) Yavar

(I know a lot of film music fans don’t care as much about those and just want the music.) I actually do the same thing and it's one of the primary selling points for me because I love learning about the behind-the-scenes of the music! I'm not familiar with FSM's release of 100 RIFLES but I absolutely fell in love with the music in both 100 RIFLES and RIO CONCHOS so even if LLL's is a repeat for the original poster, I'd still say go for it. In my opinion you can never have too much 100 RIFLES and RIO CONCHOS

Oh yeah they’re amazing scores, but that doesn’t seem to be in question. Yavar

If anyone would care to do straight swap, my FSM "Rifles" disc for another OOP FSM title, I'd love to trade. dogplant wishes to smuggle half his rifles out of his storage place.
