Listening to the score lately...I had always wondered where the action/suspense music was on the album from the final fight in the film. It appears as though the final fight music was tracked in from the earlier cue "Car Flip."
It's actually an alternate mix of "Car Flip" that was used for the final fight; this alternate mix was included on the La-La Land CD in the main body of the score, but not the original mix

Interesting. You'd think that with the short runtime of the score, to fill out the CD La-La land would have included both mixes, unless they are so similar to each other as to be redundant.

Also in the liner notes, there is reference to an alternate for "Matt Gets Turned On", which I remember in the film. It had this sort of sensual breathing that was not in the album track.
How I do so wish that Horner would do a score like this in 2015 -- a dark, moody thriller score on a small scale. I'd kill to see how he'd approach it nowadays...I'm sure those days are over but as much as I love his epic orchestral works and adventure treats, I do miss the "dark" Horner from the days of yore, and I wish he wasn't too good, too accomplished, too matured to score something like Jade or Ransom or even a Schwarzenegger action-fest like he used to. But now I'm getting on a tangent!
Well.. he just did the score for that Auschwitz documentary, which pretty much fits all the criteria. Sure it's not a thriller score but fits well within his more minimalist works such as Class Action, Extreme Close Up or The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. Now it only needs to get released.
I never purchased it, but from this cue it seems to have the dark approach Goldsmith took with films like THE OMEN and especially in this video offering, it reminds me of Goldsmith's OUTLAND. Not the vocals though. Those are more like THE DRESSER:

I think I tried to watch the movie once but it was quite disturbing if I even remember. I seem to recall a car running over someone's leg or something and it wasn't pretty. Seems a lot of people connect with the non Horner MYSTICS DREAM song as far as music for the film and I heard that hardly any James Horner music is in the film. Cues on youtube sound like he was experimenting with the Japanese Instruments and such and more subtle vocal wailing.
Actually most of Horner's score is in the film. The music that isn't in the film as much, is some of the traditional Chinese music he arranged. Some of it seemed to be replaced with other traditional music, and some of the score early on ("Car Flip") was tracked into the finale.
Watched this trash on Amazon Prime this morning., Horner's score is totally nondescript, just agitated piano banging leftovers from Sneakers and random shakuhachi moans.
