Just curious, I got this disc new sealed from a third party seller and I think it is legit but was wondering if any of you own the CD, on the back inner ring does it say anything like 7731 - 60808C www. Graphicland .com (no breaks) Yakuza then 070705 It just looked odd to me.

Thank you, I used to own this one so it look correct and the quality is all there but my mind starts questioning things haha.

Thanks for the response!

This is such a great score I can never grow tired of the Main Title sequence music.

This has been the first moody, grey day in Seattle in several weeks. No doubt the hot, sunny days will soon return for awhile, but it's been a reminder that autumn will be arriving shortly. A good evening to nurse a brandy (well...a glass of some zero calorie Sparkling Ice actually) and rewatch Mitchum, Takakura, Jordan, Okada, Kishi, et al. Love the insights into both the film and the Grusin score in this thread.

The film and score alike are pretty perfect for those moody, gray days, Mark. The music definitely puts one in an introspective kind of mood.

Great score, great movie...it deserves a Blu-Ray release one of these days.

Mine does not.
It has something that looks like a barcode around the back inner ring, and the code MTB6151 imprinted.
I never suspected my copy wasn't legit. It's a pressed CD, not a CD-r, and XLD confirms it is pressed and an accurate rip to my iTunes library. The booklet, inserts and printing on the front of CD also look perfectly legit.
I got it long ago, new, but can't remember exactly the retailer.
Puzzling.

Whenever this thread reappears on the main page, I head to my Dave Grusin section and dig out the CD for another go around, to see if it's gonna win me over this time.
It's in my pile for work tomorrow, so I will report back with my gibberish thoughts later this week.
Shalom smile

I recently sold my copy of the CD via Amazon, maybe to you. If so, I can attest that I sold my personal copy that I bought directly from FSM back when it was originally released.

Apparently people at Varese heard that you all still wanted this on CD.

If you haven't bought it yet, I highly recommend the WB YAKUZA Blu-Ray. The Warner DVD already looks great for the film's age, but the BD is fantastic! Almost perfect picture and sound.

I believe that this release marks the first Warner Bros. score previously released by Film Score Monthly that has had a re-release by another label.

After a few days of early summer weather here in Seattle, it's back to overcast skies. As I posted four years ago, a good day to brood on THE YAKUZA. I'm even sipping some tea as I listen to the FSM CD. Maybe I'll watch the movie itself tonight and imagine myself in a 1970s film or a comic book illustrated by Paul Gulacy as I sit and brood some more in a secluded dark lounge somewhere downtown as rain beats down mercilessly on the streets of misery outside. I nurse my glass of bourbon - its ice melting - as I think of Diane. Where is she? What part of the world does she live now? Or is she still close by - what if I tried her old phone number and she answers? What do I say? How can I tell her how she still haunts my mind without sounding like a madman? What....

Damn, Grusin, your music really gets to me!

I enthusiastically endorse the Varese reissue! I helped out on it. There were piano sweeteners on two cues that we could not find for the original FSM edition, but WB did locate for the Varese. Plus they found some demos. It's great. Love this score!

I think I'll have to pull the trigger this. I missed out on the FSM CD. That price is pretty sweet.

Listened to the score--talk about music not enjoyed by the typical FSMer--and while Grusin composed a masterpiece, my recent viewing of the film itself had me not enjoying it as much as I once did. Yes, the aforementioned scenes I posted about previously are still powerful, but one wonders what "could have been" had original director Robert Aldrich been at the helm. Mitchum's calling for Aldrich's dismissal only sours me all the more on Hollywood's goings on.
