Given that Dino DeLaurentiis insisted on popular artists to score his movies at that time, it's a fair bet that hiring Vangelis was his idea -- the potential for a best-selling album being a major incentive. The details are anyone's guess, but I suspect it was another "tug of war" between production company and record label, prompting Vangelis to throw up his hands in disgust and say "Lets just forget the whole thing!" Fortunately we have Twilight Time's Blu-ray. The music adds a claustrophobic atmosphere to the film brilliantly. You can virtually feel the sweat and heat in the main title. Did I miss it? It was released in 2015. Technically it is "out of print" but still available from Amazon.com... https://www.amazon.com/Blu-ray-ANTHONY-HOPKINS-LAURENCE-OLIVIER/dp/B00VBTDEI4/ref=tmm_blu_title_1?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr= Be sure to order the Twilight Time Blu-ray. The Kino Lorber release does not have the isolated music.
