I would not be surprised if Vangelis originally wanted to release a Bounty soundtrack -- that extended "suite" which follows the end title seems very-much like the B-side of an album (much like the suite which makes-up the B-side of Chariots of Fire).

Given that Dino DeLaurentiis insisted on popular artists to score his movies at that time, it's a fair bet that hiring Vangelis was his idea -- the potential for a best-selling album being a major incentive.

The details are anyone's guess, but I suspect it was another "tug of war" between production company and record label, prompting Vangelis to throw up his hands in disgust and say "Lets just forget the whole thing!"

Fortunately we have Twilight Time's Blu-ray. It is missing the 20-minute suite, and it may be mono, but it's the real McCoy.

You can still download the BSX recording (I know, anathema to the CD ONLY crowd)

Another instance where a period piece is ' ruined' by " anachronistic" synth.

Right Brother Sol?

Not at all. The music adds a claustrophobic atmosphere to the film brilliantly. You can virtually feel the sweat and heat in the main title. Vangelis did a brilliant job.

When did Twilight Time release a Blu-ray of this film? Did I miss it?

Man, you are SO wrong. I'm so glad Williams or some other guy didn't write a silly orchestral score for this.

Again.... See the quotes around " ruined"?
I am teasing Solium who insists period pieces are exempt from synths!

I had a feeling you may have been ironic, but I couldn't be sure...

When did Twilight Time release a Blu-ray of this film? Did I miss it?

It was released in 2015. Technically it is "out of print" but still available from Amazon.com...

https://www.amazon.com/Blu-ray-ANTHONY-HOPKINS-LAURENCE-OLIVIER/dp/B00VBTDEI4/ref=tmm_blu_title_1?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=

Be sure to order the Twilight Time Blu-ray. The Kino Lorber release does not have the isolated music.

Again, the music track is mono, but despite that, it sounds exceptionally good.

Who's paying attention to the synth score in a film full of perfectly tanned naked islanders?

Non-gays perhaps? Doesn't THE BOUNTY have an almost all-male cast?

If I remember correctly the shipmates humped a few sheep too.
