Question for the experts: do I miss a release? I know I miss the release with the special edition like covers, but I heard the ones I got with the holographic covers are re-releases of that CDs. True?
True. As long as you have the silver and black 6-CD box set, you don't need the Special Edition releases for music content. (Only if you insist upon having every single liner note ever written for CD about STAR WARS do you need those SE releases.)
I still prefer lapti nek and ewok celebration over the replacements.
Same here. I'm just a "Lapti Nek" kind of guy living in a "Jedi Rocks" world... :^(
I can appreciate the "Victory Celebration" a little more, though. I insert that between (A) "Leia's News -- The Light Of The Force" and (B) my own edit of the "Ewok Celebration (ROTJ Film Version)" from the Outtakes disc with the "Finale" from the ROTJ disc.
That way, you can have the Galactic response, but then the original Ewok Celebration brings it home nicely.
Damn, that is SUCH a good set. I will never get tired of it. Another round of applause for all those who brought it to us.
And another shout-out to Chris Malone for the excellent and thorough piece he wrote about the 3 scores. I think of it as a companion to the box set's liner notes.

Thank you for the information. This saves me from buying 1:1 sounding CDs.
The terrific article that Lukas wrote in this print edition of FSM- I spend many spare evenings and morning pouring over every minutiae of information. It would be nearly 2 years until I got my hands on this set after it came out! And What a joy to finally get these was! [along with the DCC RAIDERS cd] imagine both landing in my hands at the same time. I was in soundtrack JOHN WILLIAMS Heaven.

Have you got these?
I saw these years ago, and always wondered what the story was behind these different covers.
Those were released by RCA and they included the theatrical artwork for the Special Editions as opposed to the black sleeve cases that were found on the RCA SE booklet releases. The content is identical. Sony Classical rereleased the sets in jewel cases with different (inferior imo) graphics using screen grab stills from the actual film instead of drawn art.
EDIT: I can't say if the liner notes are identical as I don't have either of the jewel case SE releases but I'm sure someone else can answer that.
I too have and love the long box set and thought it a real treasure when I bought it. My opinion hasn't changed. I know it's not complete but it's a wonderful set. I still prefer lapti nek and ewok celebration over the replacements.
I remember seeing overstocks of these at HMV Oxford Street when I lived in the UK. Several years ago, I did get a sealed copy from a seller which I have in storage.

I just remember seeing them on a visit to Virgin Records in Chicago all those years ago. Wish I had picked them up. I liked the artwork.
