I'm always game to watch a 1960s movie about "Swinging London" or spy/caper films set near the Riviera or films in general from roughly 1965-1972 (give or take a few years in either direction) that take place in Europe and showcase the continent as it was (at least on film).

So...In the latest CINEMA RETRO, I was reading the review of the 1967 film I'll Never Forget What's isname", starring Oliver Reed and since I'd never heard of the film, I wondered how many of these "Mod" movies there were from this era.

Please feel free to discuss...

Sheesh! I guess everyone here were stinkin', lousy hippies back then! wink

I've run across a few more Mod-style movies:

Crossplot (1969) Roger Moore, Martha Hyer, Claudie Lange
Mr. Jerico (1969) Patrick Macnee

I'd include "Modesty Blaise" (Monica Vitti, Terence Stamp) "Smashing Time" (Rita Tushingham, Lynn Redgrave), and "Georgy Girl" (James Mason, Alan Bates, Lynn Redgrave),

The film Michael Winner made before "I'll Never" "The Jokers" is very swinging London, it's a really good comedy about Oliver Reed & Michael Crawford stealing the crown jewels, but it's never been out on DVD (some music rights issue). "I'll Never Forget What's 'Isname" is a great movie, one of my favorite '60s films. There's a very good looking DVD from Anchor Bay, unfortunately deleted, but you can still buy it from Amazon Market-Place. Edit, just checked, about $30 ish.

You might also try "Hammerhead" (Vince Edwards, Judy Geeson) [if you can find it on TV; it's not available on video] and the downbeat "Quadrophenia" (Phil Daniels, Leslie Ash).

I just ordered CROSSPLOT (1969) and Network is selling MISTER JERICO (1969). Guess it's time I invested in a region free DVD player...

"UP THE JUNCTION" - Mike Hugg - Manfred Mann
"HERE WE GO ROUND THE MULBERRY BUSH" - Spencer Davis Group - Traffic

....and definitely - "SMASHING TIME" - John Addison

While not exactly "mod," I would add "Grand Prix" to the list. It certainly shows Europe as it was during the 1960s.

What about the atrocious but compulsive 'Girl of a Motorcycle' from 1968? A regular tour.

I suppose 'Quadrophenia' doesn't count really.

Also try:
DARLING (early 60's)
THE 10TH VICTIM
CASINO ROYALE
BLOW-UP
BEDAZZLED (the Stanley Donen original)
HELP!
A HARD DAY'S NIGHT (early 60's)
WHAT'S NEW PUSSYCAT
TWO FOR THE ROAD (Check out those mod outfits Audrey Hepburn sports!
PETULIA
ALICE'S RESTAURANT

Or, from TV:
ROWAN&MARTIN'S LAUGH-IN

(I still think SMASHING TIME says more about the period than anything else. Wonderful satire.)

On second thought, I realize a lot of these films are more about the 60's in general, as opposed to the "Mod Swinging London." For which, apologies...

Does Follow Me (1972; aka The Public Eye) qualify for this category? Seeing as London is practically a character in this film, I'd like to think so.

And when did London stop being Mod? 1974? With the rise of David Bowie and Glam Rock?

Does London still look like this--(begins at 2:40 into it):
