THE MARSHALL DISMISSAL

Playing it now ... not to everyone's tastes but for me, a Shire masterwork.

The Rafer Overvaluation

If this score is so great how come it took 18 years to get any.comments?

Huh?

You must not like Grusin's paranoia sound from LLL's reissue of The Firm either (the GRP album left off all the best paranoia cues).

I love Grusin and Shire.
Scoring a movie for solo piano doesn't work for me. And I play piano!

It worked for the movies! Moreso The Conversation, but both also featured electronic manipulations of some sort.

The album should contain at least one version of "Red Red Robin."

It should also have contained a version of the conversation itself as it appeared in the film, with the garbled audio and attempts to isolate certain frequencies. It would have functioned like a musique concrete piece.

If there had been a soundtrack album into 1970s, both would have been included.

But beggars can't be choosers, and I'm happy to have what I have.

Ah yes, this is just the sort of introspective film music conversation I come here for. The joie de vivre, the unabashed enthusiasm, the precise (yet never cold) appreciation of a score's technical merits...it's all there, and in a mere 7 words.

Lol! Best...post...ever!!!

The Spook Hyperbole

I’ve made it into a Mr Marshall reference..yay!!! ..I can die a happy man now :-)

WAY COOL! I can't wait. This is probably one of my top five favorite films, not to mention one of the top ten gretest films of all time. For me, this was the film that defined the 1970's.

Wonderful score !
Here's another David Shire track that also defines the 1970's....for me anyways.

True, but personally I'm more fond of this type of 1970s Shire track:

True, but personally I'm more fond of this type of 1970s Shire track:

"Your response was insulting and pointless in context".

Though I'd done some mail ordering prior to this, Intrada's release of THE CONVERSATION represented the start of a regular online CD buying habit that continues to this day.

I love most of Shire's output, but THE CONVERSATION is unique, a brilliant evocation of the film's headspace, while still adding another dimension to Harry Caul's experience. It's a score I still play several times a year.
