Mr Jones has recently (in the past year or so) managed to climb to my top 10 list of favourite composers, as I've been checking out more and more of his work. It began with The Dark Crystal, and I went on to LXG, Merlin, Cliffhanger, Dark City, etc... all the good stuff. Curiously enough, "Mohicans" is the only score of his that didn't appeal to me so much. Anyway, the question is, why the HECK didn't I discover this brilliant composer before??? His music - it's like it's tailor-made for my ears.

Jopstein, you have to check out HIDEAWAY if you don't already know it. The last track on the CD is absolutely awsome. A theme (which runs more than 12 minutes!!) based on the classical Dires Irae performed by large symphony orchestra, chorus backed up by electric guitar and drum kit (!!). Another nice score is "The Last Place on Earth". I was not very lucky since my introduction to the music of Trevor Jones was the score album from Arachnophobia, which in my eyes (or ears) not is a very pleasant listening experience. Christian Madsen NP. Hoosiers (Jerry Goldsmith)

Jostein, please be on the look out for a Jones score called "For Roseanna," or it may be "Roseanna's Grave." It is called "For Roseanna" and released by BMG. Another nice score.

I enjoyed the Arachnophobia score quite a bit, even though the music for the climax contains some blatant borrowing from Poltergeist's "Escape from Suburbia." I would assume that the scene was temp-tracked with Goldsmith's piece, since the context of the scene is similar and director Frank Marshall was one of Poltergeist's producers. A similar thing happened with Cliffhanger; fine score overall, but certain passages were lifted directly from Silvestri's scores for Predator and The Abyss. I like a lot Jones's stuff, but he's not shy about temp-track influences.

Check out DINOTOPIA too, a pretty good score for a not-too-good Hallmark made-for-TV movie. At first, it was only available as some kind of promo; then Disney announced they planned to release it commercially, but that never happened. (Oddly enough, I've found it really cheap in used bins here and there. Keep searching...)
