Some of you might remember this series, which ran back in 1997 or so here in Norway (I presume it was a bit earlier in the US). I quickly became a fan, as I found it to be an original and intriguing concept, some very good stories, fine actors (featuring a semi-benign Clancy Brown for a change) and an engrossing mood. Unfortunately, viewers didn't share my view, so NBC cancelled it all too soon, after just a few episodes and without any kind of resolution (like SPACE: ABOVE AND BEYOND or CRUSADE). It told the story about a crew who crashlands on a deserted, "Earth"-like planet and then tries to make a living there (and to find a way home, obviously). But of course, they soon realize that the planet is not totally deserted. Again: really intriguing concept, and executed well, IMO. The music was by David Bergeaud, perhaps best known for his score to the animated PRINCE VALIANT. I was just relistening to a CD-R of the pilot promo yesterday ("First Contact"), and I must say that it's really impressive. For the most part, it's harshly dissonant and modernistic, with all kinds of percussive effects for the scary "Terrians". But in between, there are some lovely parts, with choir and strings, that are really spellbinding. Then there's also the gorgeous and expansive main theme, which is somewhat reminiscent of Kamen's FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON theme. Overall, a fine listen, and I wish some more of this music was released, preferably commercially. With the limited success of the series, I'll doubt this will ever happen, though. So....any other fans of the series and music?

Never got into this myself first time around, but saw some repeated episodes. It seemed enjoyable, and the Theme was good. I never got the chance to acquire the promo (I think only about 200 were made), but there is a site that offers all of the tracks as downloadable zip files. They sound good. http://www.earth2tv.com/soundtrack.html

Yes, I loved the show and Bergeaud's music. I'd heard there was a promo but have never found it listed anywhere. This is the first time I've seen anyone saying he had a copy. Hint! Hint!

I remember Earth 2, though I don't recall the music. Here in the US, it aired from 1994-95. My family and I watched it every week and really enjoyed it. I was also disappointed that it was canceled and left hanging. I've been tempted to pick up the DVD set, but was afraid that I would just be upset all over again watching it end abruptly without a finale. EDIT: I just found this bit of information about why the show was canceled: "Earth 2's producers - the people who had brought life to the characters which they themselves created - were fired by Universal in hopes of changing the show to fit what the mass population wanted to see. A promo was created by Universal for a second season, but this was rejected by NBC and the show was cancelled. This promo tape was found and shown at the first Earth 2 convention, New PacifiCon 1996. No one had seen it before, not even the cast members, and after viewing what the second season may have been like, everyone was generally glad the show wasn't renewed. The proposal was not what we would want for a second season. In essence, they dumbed the show down, until it would have been almost unrecognizable as the one we had grown to love." http://www.mooncross.net/earth2/whathappened.html

I remember this show and someone pointing out that it didn't work because it was not an "office" show. Star Trek is the ultimate sci-fi "office" show -- the Enterprise is the office, and travels to where the story is. Earth 2, the people were wandering around without roots. Sci-fi is apparently really hard without the office. No kidding! I like Earth II starring Gary Lockwood with music by Lalo Schifrin. Anyone remember that? Lukas

I like Earth II starring Gary Lockwood with music by Lalo Schifrin. Anyone remember that? Lukas Absolutely! It aired on one of our local channels at least once a year when I was a kid, and I never missed it. One of those things my Dad & I always watched together. Haven't seen it in a loooooooooong time.

Lukas, I recall EARTH II quite well, but had forgotten that Gary L.ockwood was in it, remembering it as starring Anthony Franciosa. I had recorded the main title to my trusty Sony Superscope reel-to-reel recorder back then and was somewhat miffed that the mostly in the clear main title was soiled by Franciosa's line, "Earth II", when the station comes into view.
