Now that Moonraker has released after most thought the tapes were lost wonder if this bodes well for a Raise Titanic release!

Not being funny, but just because Moonraker is coming out, it doesn't mean that every John Barry score that has been thought lost is suddenly going to appear.

(And Moonraker was never lost. I keep repeating it but the myth that it was lost and has been found keeps persisting.)

Cheers

I only stated people “thought” they were lost. So maybe the same goes for Titanic. Anyways, cheers!

No news when the announcement will be made by Intrada. I hope all titles will be available for ordering at the same time.

My number one non Bond grail.. film recording of Raise The Titanic. Fingers crossed.

I get you.

The difference is though that, "The Moonraker tapes are lost," was only ever a fan-fuelled urban myth.

Labels have actually searched for elements to release Raise The Titanic and failed, so that one isn't just a fan-fueled urban myth.

That said, failing to find something doesn't prove it doesn't exist. Everything currently assumed lost, unless it can be positively identified as destroyed through an evidence trail, could just be sitting in an uncatalogued crate somewhere.

So, there is always hope, and no one will cheer louder than me if the film tracks of Raise The Titanic ever get surfaced.

Cheers

I think there's more chance of raising the actual Titanic - in it's current state (in bits) than Raise The Titanic tapes surfacing.

Does anyone think MURPHY'S WAR (1971) might be a possibility. I'm not sure if there is enough music to warrant an album; and did he not share the scoring credit with Ken Thorne? Cheers

As you've raised MURPHY'S WAR, did you know that a composer promo CD released MURPHY'S WAR?

https://www.soundtrackcollector.com/title/21990/Murphy%27s+War

It's true that Ken Thorne completed the score, but he did so using themes (plural, not singular) composed by John Barry, and the film's highlight sequences (Main Title, The Village, The Nurse, Learning to Fly) all sound like vintage John Barry to me.

To be transparent, I do not know this to be fact, but I have always assumed that John Barry scored those key sequences himself and then Thorne did the rest using John Barry's themes.

Cheers

Just so many possibilities, new to CD or an OOP rerelease? I did think of High Road To China, I had that years ago, but can't find it now & I have a hankering to listen to it after many years (it's funny how the brain works). Anyway, just bought a copy from eBay quite cheaply (£11 delivered). I just remembered I bought a copy of Moonraker from eBay a few months back, as I couldn't find mine (I think I got rid of a lot of CDs in a clear-out, best not to do that & stay a hoarder), that CD can go to a charity shop now.

Many thanks for that Stephen.

So, Out Of Africa. A timeless masterpiece. Wonder if a second disc will be just a reprint of an original, short soundtrack album...

Most likely. The full score is under 40 minutes. This is because of the license deal where the parent company authorises the label to provide the album to be remastered as well and represented in its original programing. [For posterity]The original program can also be reissued separately using the newly mastered label across various formats.

You mentioned Quartet records. They have said they will not invest in any more John Barry recordings after the poor response to their SEANCE ON A WET AFTERNOON / Kathryn Hepburn set, which is a pity, because they were at one point considering to record ELEANOR AND FRANKLIN and THE WHITE HOUSE YEARS.

Cheers

Where did they say the release didn't sell well? I'm trying to find it

Bumping this question again since it never got answered. I looked at this thread here but couldn't find any info about it

It was said by Jose on Facebook, IIRC. I remember reading it, and I think someone else probably shared the news here in some thread but I don’t recall which.
