LLLCD 1652

Music by Nino Rota

Limited Edition of 5000 Units

RETAIL PRICE: $31.98

La-La Land Records, Paramount Pictures and Geffen Records proudly present a remastered and expanded Limited Edition 2-CD release of acclaimed composer Nino Rota’s (8 1/2, LA DOLCE VITA, THE GODFATHER) Oscar-winning original motion picture score to the 1974 masterpiece THE GODFATHER PART II starring Al Pacino, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton and Robert DeNiro, and directed by Francis Ford Coppola.

This deluxe release of Nino Rota’s brilliant score marks the 50th Anniversary of the classic second film in THE GODFATHER saga - arguably the greatest sequel of all time - and its iconic music, both of which have cemented themselves into our culture for eternity. Beyond the composer’s artful reprisals and interpretations of first film’s legendary waltz and love themes, the music of PART II soars further with Rota’s emotional new themes and explorations that enrich the film’s epic nature. And the Academy took note - among the film’s eleven Oscars, including Best Picture, the composer won for Best Original Score.

Produced by Dan Goldwasser and Neil S. Bulk, mixed by Chris Malone from original multi-track material, and mastered by Doug Schwartz, this special 2-CD release, limited to 5000 units, includes previously unreleased and unused music and has been approved by Francis Ford Coppola and American Zoetrope. Disc One showcases the film’s expanded score presentation along with Nino Rota source music and additional material, while Disc Two presents the remastered Original Soundtrack Album and also source cues, showcasing music by Carmine Coppola, as well as a rare Nino Rota demo recording! The exclusive, in-depth liner notes are by writer Tim Greiving and the sharp art design is by Dan Goldwasser.

Ordered this, really looking forward to listening to this. LLL Godfather was brilliant, I'd hoped they'd release this.

MV has once again made you an offer you can't refuse.

Man, I still remember the days fifteen years ago hoping some label would do these scores. Take the CD's -- leave the cannoli.

I think Part 2 is the superior score of the two GF movies.

Is the tango music anywhere in this release?

You know, right after Anthony's first communion? Outdoors with the big band under the bandshell and the two tango dancers in front?

Not In Any Way a Complaint!

When LLL released their stunning The Godfather two years ago, somebody here asked where "Ev’ry Time I Look In Your Eyes" was. I thought (incorrectly) that that was new to the second film. When I rewatched the first film, I realized it was there, too. I had absolutely no doubt that if it existed, it would have been on that CD.

It seems from the tracklist that, aside from its brief appearance on the album presentation, it's absent here, too.

Have I mentioned this is not a complaint?

I was another one hoping that Part II would follow the amazing release of THE GODFATHER. It's been a dream to hear all of Rota's music including the cues dropped in the editing process. Why there isn't more Rota in my collection is an issue I'm going to have to work on. He's a master.

The day is getting nearer that my copy will be sent! Hurray.
I ordered all three from this set, and SPIDERMAN II was starting to ship November 25. :-)

Anyway, I am somewhat amazed there is not more buzz around this release? It's THE GODFATHER PART II... if anything, it's an even richer, better score than Part I? Just wondering, as this is one of the all time classic movies with an Oscar winning score.

The score is better than the first one, in my humble opinion.

I think there isn't much buzz because a lot orders were combined with Spider-man 2, so we are anxiously waiting for those discs to be delivered.

I know I'm eagerly waiting to hear it before I shoot my mouth off. (Uncharacteristic, I know.)

I think there was more buzz when the first one was announced because we were flabbergasted that it finally happened. This one, we were expecting. But doesn't make me any less eager for it!

I think some buzzing took place in the announcement thread and the individual threads were created a little later.

But yes, I'm also eagerly awaiting this stunning release.

Same here. However I have been listening to the first of these franchises in anticipation.

I've been looking forward to having Godfather 2 for years. I've had the new release for the past few days and have been listening to it and Godfather 1 on repeat. Godfather 2 is my favorite of the two scores. I love the new release. I especially love to hear the foreboding music for Michael's drive to visit Hyman Roth. That theme shows up a few times in the score, like when Fredo gets shot. It's the music I was most looking forward to hearing outside of the film. It shows up in Little Plane as well. (What scene does this score?)

A surprising track to me was "Godfathers at Home". A very haunting theme and it shows up again in a cue that was dropped from the end (a scene with grown up Anthony visiting Michael that may or may not have been shot). What scene is Godfather's at Home supposed to score? I don't remember ever hearing it in the film. This is a case where I wish the liner notes would have had a cue-by-cue track so we could get some more info.

Fredo brings the bread is another great unused cue. It's a cuban version of the immigrant theme. I feel like there's lots of little moments here and there that were dropped, just like LLL Godfather 1 album.

The Godfather Part II was still being edited while composing was taking place and the music spotting notes we have do not correspond with the reel and part numbers on the recordings. "The Godfathers At Home" is a track that was on the original soundtrack album and is made up of two cues, 9m1 (0:46) and 10m2 (1:49). The notes from October 3, 1974 reference an "old 10-2" which runs about 1:42 and begins on a cut to Miami and would play through cars on their way to Roth's house. It would end with Mrs. Roth saying "It's all right." I do not see a listing for an "old 9m1".
