A few days ago, my score for Treasure Trackers—a family-friendly Halloween feature—was released. I had the pleasure of recording it with the 90-piece Bratislava Symphony Orchestra.
Our goal with this score was to create a classic orchestral adventure soundtrack that evokes a sense of nostalgia for the iconic scores of the '80s and '90s.
It’s available on all major streaming platforms, and you can also purchase it as a digital download or on CD. You can find all the links here:
Thanks alot for the very kind words! I really appreciate them! Glad you're liking the score!
Was this really recorded in a concert hall (per the picture above) rather than a recording studio? Does that make for the best acoustics?
That picture is indeed from the recording. The room is a hybrid between studio and concert hall. This kind of music where the entire orchestra is playing and being recorded together (rather than recording it in sections and then layering it in the mix which is the more common approach nowadays) plus the requiremet to have the orchestra really bloom and give it that classic sound needs a relatively large space or studio. Considering the budget constraints we had, the studio spaces that were possible were all too small to accomodate for the sound I wanted. Bratislava has this gorgeous concert/studio hall which sounds very close to Abbey Road Studio 1, which was more or less the role model of the sound I was after, so it was the perfect fit for that score.
Here's a little wider shot of that room (different recording with smaller orchestra):
So the short answer would be: Yes, a larger space sounds better for a score like this and provides the sound esthetics that I was after.
Thanks alot for the kind words! Great to hear that you even ordered the CD! And there of course were some temp tracks, but I got the liberty to divert from them if I had a better working idea so I'm glad to hear that you feel like the score has its own character!
