WEDNESDAY, JULY 10

WE LIVE IN TIME---trailer for the comedy movie starring Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh.

STAR WARS---Shawn Levy will team up with his long-time collaborator, writer Jonathan Tropper, for a future STAR WARS movie. Tropper said he met with Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy to discuss the movie, ”Her central mandate to me was, ’I want a Shawn Levy movie. I want a story and a tone that reflects you and your taste and what you bring to your movies — with a STAR WARS story.”’ Tropper added that he was “very empowered to trust my instincts in the development of this story and movie.”

SPIDER-MAN NOIR---Nicolas Cage commented on the Amazon Prime tv series, “The fantasy would be that I could try to aspire to be something more Golden Age. You know, something more like James Cagney or Humphrey Bogart. Or Hedy Lamarr or Bette Davis. I wanted to have that kind of aura, you know, like the more enigmatic, you don’t know too much. That’s why I’m not on social media. That’s the thinking, anyway. I don’t know. We’ll see what happens if I do this Amazon show, and they put me in black-and-white. We’ll see if we can get some of that flavor.“
He added, “Forty-five minutes. I mean, it’s eight episodes. So it’s the equivalent of four movies in five months. And I’ve got another movie I’ve gotta prepare for, and then a movie right after it…One of the things that I like about this potential show is that it’s fantasy. It’s not really people beating people up. Monsters are involved.“

STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY---Kerrice Brooks (MY OLD A**), Bella Shepard (WOLF PACK) and George Hawkins (TELL ME EVERYTHING) will play Starfleet Academy cadets with Holly Hunter and Paul Giamatti also starring.

THE LAST OF US---Season 2 photo released from Vancouver's Chinatown film set of Bella Ramsey as Ellie and Isabela Merced as Dina.

BEVERLY HILLS COP: AXEL F---the sequel had 41 million views in the first week of July and made Netflix's Top 10 in 93 countries which makes it Netflix's biggest premiere in 2024.

WHY DON'T YOU LOVE ME?---Jennifer Lawrence will star in the movie based on the graphic novel whose synopsis says, “WHY DON'T YOU LOVE ME?? is a pitch-black comedy about marriage, alcoholism, depression, and mourning lost opportunities. Paul B. Rainey has created a hilariously terrifying alternate reality where confusion and pain might lead people to make bad choices but also eventually freedom… maybe.”

AFTER BAYWATCH: MOMENT IN THE SUN---Hulu four-part docuseries whose synopsis says the, “docuseries unpacks how the show captured the mythology of California’s beach culture, set physical beauty standards for an entire generation, and capitalized on the adage “sex sells.'" It will feature a new interview with Pamela Anderson.

TRIVIA---Robert Wise's THE HAUNTING was based on the Shirley Jackson novel THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE in which a paranormal investigator and his associates investigate a haunted mansion. Martin Scorsese said it is Number 1 on his list of the 11 scariest horror movies of all time. Wise said Steven Spielberg told him THE HAUNTING was "the scariest film ever made!"
However, Jackson told her parents "It is actually a very poor movie, the plot of the book changed radically, and far too much talk." She told a friend that she and her son Barry "nearly went to sleep", and the scariest thing about the movie was the parking ticket she got while they watched THE HAUNTING in a theater.

I'm with Jackson here. I've never understood why this movie, with its endless narration from Julie Harris, is considered so hot. I'd rather stick with The Uninvited) (1944) and The Innocents (1961).

I love THE UNINVITED and THE HAUNTING. THE INNOCENTS is beautifully shot and well acted, but I've always found it dull and uninvolving.

I defy anyone not to feel the hairs on the neck not bristle at the "Then who's holding my hand?" scene.......

Or the ghostly faces at the window.

Eleanor may be responsible for most if not all events !! Some kind of a pre-Carrie.
The scene with the door is still more "scary" than anything that Shyamalan has done altogether.
