While nothing has been confirmed yet, Thomas Newman is currently listed on IMDb as the composer for Steven Soderbergh's upcoming movie Black Bag.

I'm looking forward to this!

Release date confirmed for March 2025, no confirmation of the composer though…

I don't think it was ever Thomas Newman, just a joker editing IMDB.

David Holmes is scoring

Sounds like an interesting assignment for Holmes. Maybe this will give us a taste of what his rejected score to The Good German was like.

Yeah, that was one of his last really great scores. Am curious what Holmes' German score was like. (I'm apparently one of the few people who like that movie. I'm assuming the studio hated it and deliberately dumped it - how else does a Steven Soderbergh romantic thriller starring George Clooney, Cate Blanchett and Tobey Maguire make only $1 million?)

I enjoyed Zack Ryan's score for Presence (Ryan also did Soderbergh's recent mini-series Full Circle, but I haven't seen that yet). Some reviews compared it to Bernard Herrmann, but the score it most reminded me of was Rich Wilkins/Ken Wannberg's The Changeling. I know a CD is too much to hope for these days, but a vinyl would be nice, even though my apartment would barely have room for it.

The title of this thread needs to be changed so it reflects David Holmes, who did the score.

While I enjoyed the film, I thought the score was just okay. It didn't knock my socks off. Would have been interesting to hear Thomas Newman's take on the material but from the sound of his recent scores it might not have been much better.

I don't think there is any way Holmes reused his reject music for THE GOOD GERMAN on this film.

It's getting a belated Blu-Ray and 4K(!) release soon.

I have the old Warners DVD, but given their releases from that period there's a good chance it's unplayable (or at the very least stalls in the middle like many of their older DVDs).

I like to think of Tom's German score as his homage to his dad.

Yeah, that was one of his last really great scores.

THE GOOD GERMAN is a great score, but it's by no means "one of his last really great" (good you put "one of" in there, at least). I think his Indian "trilogy" of HE NAMED ME MALALA, THE SECOND BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL and VICTORIA & ABDUL is even better, for example.

But why are we still talking about Thomas Newman anyway? This is now a David Holmes project, and the headline should probably be edited accordingly.

Great score. Made me listen again to the also brilliant „No sudden move“.

Both are low key, atmospheric, but excellent in what they do.
