I think there's a few DMC members on here. I never became a member but Ive purchased some of their exclusive titles from third party sellers on Ebay.

Question, are they going to cease physical media altogether? There were rare titles they only made available through the movie club. The assumption is they want to force people to sign up for Disney + to watch their content. But the lack of new members seemed to have Disney rethinking physical media as they are releasing more and more on DVD and Blu Ray as of late. (In order to bring in more revenue.)

Thanks! Good to know they're still going to release physical media. Its sort of good news/bad news. Disney already sold its titles at a higher price range. Now that they are licensing out their physical media Sony is going to have to sell these titles at a premium price.

I have been a member for over 10 years, and I got a lot of stuff from the club. It sounds like the production of the Bluray will continue on, thankfully. Apparently Disney was not particularly well setup internally, organizationally, for producing their own catalog titles, hence, part of the reason almost all the titles had next to no extras on these discs. Bits cover this some in that story. They were pretty good at putting out the new features on Bluray with proper extras and features, but not the older titles. Sony will likely do a better job with the catalog.

All this aside, I was sad when I got the email from the club, it has seen me through many years, I got a lot of the films that we watched with our kids for many years. I have a few months left to purchase titles. I will, oddly, I suppose, miss getting the monthly mailer with the new titles, even if I did not always buy the new stuff. I have some from the holiday mailer that i will keep at mementos. I guess, it is hard to anticipate or explain how emotionally affecting things like this can be.

I would've signed up if TRON and Fantasia got 4K Club treatments.

They had some key titles that were more than enough for some people, like 20,000 Leagues or Black Hole, a lot of other catalog titles from the 70's through 90's that was never available before. It would have been nice to get those two. It is pretty likely those two will get the treatment, once Sony takes over. Those are two well loved titles.

I meant lack of new Disney + sign ups not DMC sign ups. Yes, Black Hole and 20,000 l Leagues Under the Sea are two great titles.

Yes, apparently Disney+ has been a money loser for them, they spent a lot on it, and added new content with those costs.

I am sure that the Club sold less now than it did 10 years ago, but from what I can tell that operation was a pretty low cost outfit. And whatever they sell is pretty much all profit, all those titles are long ago recovered profits. My packages are coming from some vendor outfit in Wisconsin, of all places. I doubt the actual staff for the Disney Club is more than 10 people.
