Brian Tyler to Reteam with Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett on ‘Abigail’
Composer Brian Tyler (The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Fast Five, Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Crazy Rich Asians, Now You See Me) is reteaming with directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett on the upcoming vampire horror movie Abigail. The film starring Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, Alisha Weir, William Catlett, Angus Cloud, Kevin Durand & Giancarlo Esposito follows a group of would-be criminals as they attempt to kidnap the 12-year-old ballerina daughter of a powerful underworld figure in an isolated mansion, when they discover that they’re locked inside with no normal little girl. Stephen Shields (The Hole in the Ground) and Guy Busick (Scream VI) wrote the screenplay. William Sherak (Suspiria, Ambulance), Paul Neinstein (The Night Agent, Bed Rest), James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, White House Down), Tripp Vinson (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, Murder Mystery) and Chad Villella (Southbound) are producing the Radio Silence production. Tyler has previously collaborated with Bettinelli-Olpin & Gillett on 2019’s Ready or Not and the last two Scream movies. Abigail will be released in theaters nationwide on April 19, 2024 by Universal Pictures.
I despised this trailer. On top of giving away what may have been a fantastic surprise it seems to lead into the pecking order of the cast as they are killed off. And as a confirmed reimagining of Dracula's Daughter it remains to be proved that the filmmakers are even familiar with the original film. It would've been a perfectly fine story to update to a modern sensibility and standard but this team of filmmakers felt perhaps yet another "little girls sure are scary!" Horror Thriller was what we needed yet only a year after the equally schlocky M3gan.

I think its so sad that so many trailers completely spoil movies beforehand. Its not even something that directors seem to be able to control as Ive seen a few pieces in the past of some directors speaking out and telling fans to avoid the trailer for their film at all costs! That aside i think this could be good, both film and scoring for Brian who can often produce the goods for certain projects. I've avoided watching the trailer so far.
In Bram Stoker's novel, no mention of any literal children of Dracula is made.
However, there are so many different adaptations and variations and interpretations of the character in various media, and in some of them he is depicted as having children (sometimes male, sometimes female). The idea of Dracula having a daughter is at least as old as the classic Universal horror movies, as the first sequel to Tod Browning's 1931 movie Dracula was Dracula's Daughter (1936), the movie which seems to have served as inspiration and/or basis for Agibail (however slight).

The length of that album is insane. Tyler is hit and miss to me, but I'll sample it and see if it's possible to whittle down. If there's any socalled "delicous darkness" in it, it might be worth it. If it's just dissonant noise, I'll skip it.
Yeah, looks like it might have been fun, if the trailer didn't reveal EVERY beat. Pointless. Lost interest in Brian Tyler A LONG TIME ago. Might watch it on the telly at some future date (like I did with their previous collab, READY OR NOT).
