I've been using Apple's iTunes library for years without an issue - buying music, importing CDs. Now I'm losing purchased music. Is there a better program for me to import music from CD and then my phone. Thanks

How old is your iTunes app? Is it up to date? What music are you missing? Purchased music from the iTunes store or CD's you import? Did you download the music you purchased onto your hard drive?

All of the above. I'm just looking for a new alternative to get out from under Apple's thumb.

This question has come up before including alternative suggestions. Unfortunately I don't have any. Just Google it or search FSM for threads on the topic.

If you are looking for an alternative tool to iTunes to govern a digital music collection, I can recommend MusicBee (https://www.getmusicbee.com) ; it can do everything iTunes can and then some. There may be a learning curve involved, because the program offers many options iTunes just doesn't have. However, it's obviously not a store, and I don't know how good it does syncing a phone. (While I do have some music on my phone, I don't sync it with anything.)

As far as purchased music dissapearing, that shouldn't happen. You mean you purchased music on iTunes that is no longer available, or that actually your own files disappeared?

Purchased music should still be linked to your account. You may just need to re-download it.

Could be a corrupt Library file. Or it was accidentally deleted. If you do back ups of your computer replace the file. If you still have a library file rename it in case you have to revert back to it then replace it with a backup.

Ah, yes, you're right. That should be noted.

This was exactly what I was looking for. I'll check MusicBee out. Thanks!

As I said, the program is more complex and has more option than iTunes, and it can be configured to behave like iTunes in many ways. But it handles more formats, and even both FLAC and ALAC ( you have to separately install the codecs for full ALAC support, but that's no big deal).
