Sad news. His 1998 compilation CD seems somewhat interesting.

This is devastating news! Nilsson has always been one of my absolute favourite Nordic composers. We met and chatted some 15 years ago or so when we were both involved in a seminar here in Oslo. Before the advent of Söderqvist, Jóhannsson and Gudnadottir, he really was THE number 1 Nordic film composer, as far as I'm concerned.

His incredible melodic gift was a marvel to behold -- especially his knack for bittersweet, ethereal, almost religioso themes with a very sunny, warm, comforting Scandinavian flavour. His woodwind writing was spectacular. If you don't already have his film music compilation, you should get it. It's a must-have for all serious film music fans. Adore his scores for PELLE THE CONQUEROR, DEN GODA VILJAN, JERUSALEM, JULORATORIET, SKÄRGÅRDSDOKTORN, SÅSOM I HIMMELEN and others. Still hoping for a proper release of his pirate score for Hans Alfredsson's JIM OCH PIRATERNA BLOM (1987).

Gone much too soon. frown

I don’t know about any synthbased scores, but he sometimes used synths as part of the music.
Here is an example: Natt på tivolit från Beck https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iQnueIyCkXA

A great composer indeed and very sad news! There was a tribute concert in Stockholm some weeks ago called Musik för livet(music for life)with Benny Andersson and Helen Sjöholm among others. I believe Stefan played the piano during parts of the concert.

Here are two favourites of mine:
Arons dröm from Juloratoriet https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iC2MteIbJBU&pp=ygULQXJvbnMgZHLDtm0%3D
Martin Beck theme https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_IlkiTD5PQA&pp=ygUTc3RlZmFuIG5pbHNzb24gYmVjaw%3D%3D

Knowing ALS, I would be very surprised if he played piano in a concert a few weeks before he died.

Good call. I've listened to that CD maybe 50 times, but for some reason that track didn't come to me immediately. Weird.

According to Swedish television SVT it was his last concert at the piano. I don’t know how much he actually played.
