I love how the logo for every one of these live-action remakes is a slightly blander, more corporate, less whimsical, and yet unmistakably copied version of the original. Kind of like the movies themselves!

Yeah, Alan Menken, well, he has ridden this thing as long as he can. I mean, it seems like a rut, but I guess he feels like he has to do this reboot adaptations or they will trash his original score, and, well, I bet Disney pays him a load of money for each one of these.

Yeah why let someone else trash your score when you can trash your own score.

I have no interested in the film or the songs, (gawd what Ive heard of the songs are cringe) but his adaption of the Aladdin themes were pretty good in the live action adaption of the film. Hans did a good job adapting his themes for the Lion King CGI film as well.

I think Hans did a terrible job of adapting Menken's themes for the Lion King. They all sounded like being written by Elton John. wink

The Little Mermaid is something that's very dear to Menken's heart being his first Disney film and having worked with Howard Ashman on it. So it's certainly a project he likes to have some control of. And unlike normal film composers he is involved from the beginning.

Second coming from the theatre having a new production of a show is something completely normal.

Finally Menken talked about it during the Hollywood in Vienna symposium last October and sounded pretty happy about the project.

I must admit I wasn't too fond of the modern pop rendition of Part of your World in the first trailer. But I will wait to pass judgment on the film until it comes out. I am certainly looking forward to it as it has one of the best song scores of any musical written in the last 50 years (and there's nothing cringeworthy in it wink).

Sure. But I finally could participate in trashing Hans Zimmer which seems to be so popular on this board without having to mean it. Now I have got this out of my system smile

I don’t hold out a ton of hope about any more live action Disney remakes being good, but that’s a lovely poster.

Such a gloomy looking poster. Isn't The Little Mermaid supposed to be fun?

Maybe they adapted the original Andersen story, which is anything but fun.

Stop me if I've ranted about this before, but has anyone else noticed that these live-action remakes, almost to a one, feature logos that are blander, more homogenized versions of the logos for the originals? It's like it wants to be the 1989 logo, but it only has access to the standard Windows 95 font pack.

I visited the statue in Copenhagen a few months ago.
It was very nice.
Looks just like that poster.
Except it was proper sunny when I saw it.
