ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK---the SCREAM team of Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett and Chad Viillella) is in talks to direct the "reboot" of the 1981 movie with John Carpenter returning as the executive producer. Earlier reports that Kurt Russell would also be returning appear to be incorrect.

BULLITT---Bradley Cooper will play San Francisco Police Department Lt. Frank Bullitt in Steven Spielberg's reboot of the 1968 movie that starred Steve McQueen. The reboot is not connected to the original movie and will have a new plot involving Bullitt.

PAINT---synopsis released for the Owen Wilson comedy movie, “In PAINT, Owen Wilson portrays Carl Nargle, Vermont’s #1 public television painter who is convinced he has it all: a signature perm, custom van, and fans hanging on his every stroke… until a younger, better artist steals everything (and everyone) Carl loves."

RED SHIRT---Channing Tatum will star in this David Leitch movie that will be the first of a spy movie franchise. Simon Kinberg is the writer.

THE WALKING DEAD: DEAD CITY---Jeffrey Dean Morgan joked about the end of THE WALKING DEAD and how Negan and Maggie wind up in New York for DEAD CITY, "Negan professes his love for Maggie and leaves Annie behind. Maggie being Maggie, she has to tell everyone that she's gonna go on a journey by herself and find herself, when, in fact, they meet behind the barn and run off together. See you in New York!"

GREY'S ANATOMY---Ellen Pompeo announced she is leaving as a series regular, “I am eternally grateful and humbled by the love and support you have all shown me, Meredith Grey, and the show for 19 seasons!”

ATLAS SHRUGGED---Daily Wire is developing a tv series based on the novel for its streaming programs.

TRIVIA---a John Ford biography claims that while filming THE SEARCHERS, Ward Bond, 53, became infatuated with Vera Miles, 27. After filming a scene, the cast returned to their motel where Bond reportedly walked around his room in the nude with the window curtains open to impress Miles. Miles did not return Bond's show of affection.

Thanks, Dragon!

Re: Bullitt This is another one that ticks me off. I know, they can do whatever they want.

I just watched Bullitt again, and it's one of those films that gets better over time, IMO.
I wonder if today's audiences would be patient enough for a redo of the original. The pacing and the backstory, etc., there's so much subtlety I think folks would get bored.
I'm not familiar with Cooper. Does he have cool like McQueen? Does anybody?

The car chase is my all-time favorite. Just two muscle cars duelling it out.
No undercar explosions to vault it into a midair flip only to land on its wheels intact to continue; no crashing into the food court in the local mall, then driving up the down escalator only to wind up on the roof, five stories up and finally driving off that onto the wing of a plane coming in for a landing, which allows the car to continue the chase even further, leaving behind dozens of wrecked cars and collateral damage, with no legal consequences.

Ah, the good old days!

I wouldn't have thought that a naked Ward Bond was much of a turn on embarrassment

Negan (Jeffrey Dean) must be the biggest character turnaround in TV history - from totally evil monster (remember him smashing one of the leads head in that electric episode)...to one of the good guys! The Walking Dead in New York does sound good though.

I tried that once for my hot neighbor and the police came for a visit.

The pic of a stone-faced Vera Miles is hilarious in the context of the anecdote!

I'll offer to walk naked on purpose (or accidentally) to impress any girl. No? well, fuck.

big grin

I'm not sure which would be the most humiliating for me - the police showing up, or the neighbor lady pointing and laughing.

wink

The Bullitt thing will be like all the other remakes.
Different plot and its only feeble resemblance will be the title.

The last time this happened.to me , the police wouldn't let me put my clothes back on. I still don't know if it.was because they were impressed or it was for spite.

The reboot is not connected to the original movie and will have a new plot

Then it isn't a reboot, it's a new film that resembles another film.

I'm sure you're correct. Like I stated earlier, I don't think the original plot would go over today. I mean, it's pretty much a given nowadays that a cop movie is going to be like superhero movies. All action, shooting, car chases, etc.
I think that the days of showing investigative work and interdepartmental intrigue are over. There's just too much nuance and unspoken understanding to be digested.
'Sides, Bullitt was lightning in a bottle, IMO. The cast is perfect. Vaughn was at his slimy best, and of course McQueen was perfect. From what friends in law enforcement have told me, the subterfuge and conniving is fairly realistic, if not common, when it comes to ambitious folks vying for climbing the political ladder.

Yep, my thoughts the same. Reboot/Remake in name only. It's what they do nowadays.

My, Kurt Russell is so badass in this photo!

As an aside, I recommend Escape From LA. Parts of it are laugh out loud funny.

If it's the same character recast escaping from New York in the future, it's a reboot. The plot doesn't have to be the same and it's not "connected" to the original.

Example: Snake Plisken has to get out of New York (which is guarded by robots who work for the Mayor of NY) with a one of a kind priceless ceramic Cogri which belonged to Queen Elizabeth, otherwise the UK will break off all diplomatic ties with the US.

Not a sequel or a remake but a reboot of the character and his universe.

Escape From New York could be great (but it won't be). It's a great idea, Manhattan Island as a giant prison (although why would they take the most expensive real estate in the world & turn it into a prison?). The original was a small cheapo film (Escape From A Few Backstreets), & it should be epic. I'd have thought an HBO TV series would make more sense.

"Reboot" is usually used when you start an established franchise from "ground zero", so you can reboot "BATMAN" or "SPIDERMAN" or "JAMES BOND", "remake" is usually used when you do a new filming or interpretation of an established story, like Carpenter's THE THING (which was a remake of the 1951 THE THING and closer in tone to the original story), or Peter Jackson's KING KONG.

I never considered ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK really a "franchise", so I don't know what's there to "reboot"? If it's the same character rescuing someone from a giant city turned prison, it's more or less a "remake". Unless they really think they have a franchise going there.
