Yeah, I felt bad stating my personal opinion on vinyl, in that RAMBO LP thread and I also confused Neil, when my mention of the 'muddy sounding' first CD re-issue of RAMBO 3 may have looked like a diss on their mix/master of the superior sounding Intrada editions for their new LPs.
You're spot on Sean, I have no hate for vinyl lovers or the new fad that has engulfed us, but more in the fact it has replaced regular CD releases of new and old scores.
I don't get why they can't press a limited run of CD's for the likes of ANT MAN 2 and BLACK PANTHER and many others/such like (or let our niche labels do it, if they can't be bothered).
Like vinyl, CD's won't just 'go away' and I fully anticipate some kind of CD revival in the future, as everything old becomes new again, at some point.

Creeping back to this thread, nervous about what lies ahead, but a Cheers to you Kev!

I love the resurgence, having fun with it, but feel if were throwing darts at vinyl for usurping things, you must lob some venom to digital too! Viva physical - downloads are too easily forgotten, lost to time, blah blah.

No format is perfect (my cds have been skipping more than vinyl lately!), the music counts.

Bad luck, I've been listening to CDs since 1984 & can't remember any of them skipping.

Kudos then Rameau!

Best check certain Intrada items if you have them, like Barry's Howard The Duck & Bernstein's Black Cauldron....only the rare OOP titles seem to have picked up skips, for me.

I do have 30 y.o. CDRS that still spin fine, so....
Every format has flaws and is a crapshoot!

Personally I hate vinyl....its a pain in the arse and I shall never regret getting rid of it all in 1984...

I'm weird in that I don't have anything digital only stored anywhere.
If it's something by one of the guys in my set, or something that vibes with me instantly, I immediately burn it to CDR (or a mate does) so I own a physical copy...something I can play or refer back to for future transference.
I'll never get used to something I play or preview on Spotify or YouTube as being part of any collection of mine and I don't store anything on my phone or whatnot.
I loved my vinyl collection back in the day and it brought me great joy and pleasure, but it's something that I've moved on from now and just want to find a new home for (a lot of it is living it up in Oz these days after going on a lovely holiday with a new paramour).

Well properly stored digital files with proper backup don't have "skips", and can be at the highest bitrate you want.

Yeah, that's called Sods Law, the most powerful law in the universe. You're never going to get a CD that you can buy anywhere for a pittance go wrong. I managed to crack a CD the other day, trying to slide it into one of those CD storage wallets one handed (I think I was holding a cup of coffee in the other hand). I was pushing it down with my fingers & heard a crack.

I do wonder about my older CDs, as I mostly listen via iPod. I did buy a new DAP (digital audio player, what they used to call an MP3 player) a few months ago, as my iPod is playing up (it is nearly 20 years old), & I ripped hundreds of old CDs into it, & they're all fine (including a lot of CDs I've burnt using a Sony CD recorder, some 20 years old)...but give it enough time & everything goes wrong, & that's very much including us. smile

Bravo & a kudo to a fine post.

Market has gone Vinyl and even the quality labels are doing it.

I got a LP player last year as a present and it is nice to get some old stuff (analogue recordings in flea markets which are usually cheap). But there is absolutely no point on getting a digital recording on this format, it makes no sense.

I would buy that Rambo set on cd but not in LP.

If there is a vinyl revival, why stop at 33 rpm and 45 rpm? Why not start pressing 78 rpm records again? Why not release "albums" like they had in the 1940's consisting of several 78's in a bound volume of individual sleeves holding the records? The Jungle Book by Rozsa was released as an album of 3 12" 78's...would it not be "cool" to press something in this format today?

Don't forget to back up your music! External hard drive, USB thumb drive, the cloud. Whatever your preference. But don't keep only one copy, especially on a device like an audio player that can be lost or stolen.

You kids and your 78s. Nothing captures pure analogue quality like wax cylinders.

Does anyone know anything about MONTE STELLA record label? I came across a few of his vinyls and was wondering if they were worthy?

https://www.discogs.com/es/label/1306157-Monte-Stella-Records

Also, may I ask you about Mondo releases (Batman Returns, Mission Impossible) and Ennio Morricone collection "At the Movies"? Are they worthy or just digital transfers on lp?

Thanks!!
