I'm looking forward to this, Frears allows him to write more European, thematic music. Philomena and The Queen are among my favorite Desplat albums.

Amazon US doesn't list the CD, looks like only Amazon UK has it for now: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lost-King-Alexandre-Desplat/dp/B0BCRZYCXD/ The movie comes out in the UK tomorrow. It has no US release date at the moment, and IFC Films, which is listed at IMDB as the US distributor, doesn't even show it on their website, which dates their releases through the end of the year. Probably wise to pick up the UK CD.

The fillm opens with a Saul Bass-like title sequence (not sure whay) and a Herrmannesque Main Title by Desplat (not as good as OPERATION FINALE.) The film itself is solid and entertaining, like most Frears films, and the score is pleasant but unremarkable.

The movie finally came out in the US last week, and I wanted to see it, but with the Arclight and the Landmark gone due to the pandemic, the closest theaters playing it were Burbank and Marina Del Rey, so I'll wait until it's on Blu-Ray or streaming. I've had the CD since it came out last fall, but I've been waiting to listen to it until I see the film.

I finally saw the film on DVD, of all things. It flopped so badly they didn't even release a Blu-Ray. The film is charming. The score is STUNNING! It's one of my favorite Desplat CDs in ages. I usually listen to new score CDs just once, and then they end up on my shelf, so few scores are at all memorable these days. This one has stayed at the top of my pile for two weeks now, I've probably listened to it a dozen times already and I'm not getting tired of it at all. Desplat really does his best work for these small European films, where he's allowed to write highly melodic scores, with big cues that run 2-3 minutes or more, because he's given large swaths of the film to score, unlike so many American studio films.

This and Eiffel are the two best Desplat efforts from the past years. Totally agree! I've listened to both many times.
