Howard, I remember her coronation on tv. They even released a movie of her tour of the Commonwealth nations, I believe in CinemaScope. Elizabeth's coronation was a bit early for CinemaScope. The first CinemaScope film that was shot, HOW TO MARRY A MILLIONAIRE, had just wrapped production two months before her June 1953 coronation. Her coronation film was in Technicolor only. But by the time of the Royal Tour, which began in November 1953, and lasted seven months, visiting 13 countries and covering more than 40,000 miles, CinemaScope cameras were available. The 1954 film was released under the title FLIGHT OF THE WHITE HERON in Britain. In the U.S., the opening titles of the film read: "Twentieth Century-Fox Presents Flight of the White Heron, The Commonwealth Tour of H.M. The Queen and H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh." The film was released in the U.S. in July 1954. At the end of the opening credits, two written forewords appear: "'O stranger from beyond the horizon, The Rare White Heron of the Single Flight; welcome to this outflung post of your Empire. Queen of a mighty Throne, built on the affections of countless peoples, enter your domain.' (Maori Greeting to Her Majesty)." The second foreword reads: "'From beginning to end this royal pilgrimage has reasserted human values and given a new pre-eminence to the grace and dignity of life.' The Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill."

I realise this sounds like the start of a joke... but I once went to one of the garden parties at the palace. Saw Queenie fairly close up as she walked past us on the way to where she was sitting. Heck of a garden. Lovely to wander about. And I remember the brass bands playing some Goodwin and Williams Today I watched some interviews with people who had met the Queen. One lady was at one of the garden parties you've mentioned. She was being introduced to the Queen when suddenly her cell phone rang. The Queen said "You had better answer that. It might be someone important." Can you imagine the mortification? Love that story erik. Well, big jim, when you are a superstar broadcaster, guitar maestro and voiceover magician, its not surprising royalty wants to be seen with you. Lol
