I'm still struck by the mirror-image crash that happened one day before the Heche accident, also in Los Angeles. This other woman, she wasn't famous and evidently she wasn't under the influence. She was just acting out how distraught she was over a broken romance by tearing down a crowded city street at 90 mph (145 kph).
Another thing this woman doesn't have in common with Heche is that she wasn't seriously hurt. She was driving a tank-like Mercedes designed to protect the wealthy in collisions. She just popped a couple of broken bones. Others were not so lucky:
In total, the crash killed six and left eight hospitalized. The crash involved six to seven vehicles, three of which caught on fire.
"I think the devastating part was you heard the scream. I don’t know if it was one of the victims that was in the car burning, or what," he added.

It just makes you wonder what happens in someone's mind. It seems like a mixture of anger, sorrow, self-pity, rejection, etc., all rolled up into one big, blinding flash of momentary insanity that results in some drastic action.
You wonder, if that person could have paused long enough to calm down a little, perhaps they wouldn't have done what they did.
If you drive into an intersection at 90 mph against the red light, it's not gonna end up like it does in the movies. If you die, you're going to wreak havoc on your family members and loved ones and ruin or end the lives of others as well and you'll just be dead.
If you survive, God help you with the consequences you will face.
When I was in my early and mid twenties I was somehow a sort of unofficial "mentor" to lots of youth, mostly adolescents.
It was fascinating how many young guys, particularly, would be angry at parents, school, girls that rejected them, etc., would use almost word-for-word the phrase, "Well, they'll feel different when they're crying over my grave!", as if they were contemplating suicide, perhaps. I sometimes would calmly say, "Yeah, they will, but you won't know it, cause you'll be dead." It made them think. Some got angry at me, but most would just get quiet. None of them ever comitted suicide - not that they were seriously considering it - I have no way of knowing, and not that I stopped them, but I'd like to think it helped them realize how rash they were being.

In moments of panic or anxiety I'll always hear and remember my dear Uncle Domenic's voice, in his sweet broken English Italian accent saying "Piano Piano" where basically he meant "Go Slow" or "Take it slow" "Soft and Slow and Easy". It always helps me in those anxious times.

Thanks, Zooba, that's awesome! I saw in one of your threads that you're a couple of years younger than me (I'm 67), and as I've gotten older, I think about folks in my life that had that easy way about them, like your uncle.
They just seemed unrushed and unflappable, steady as a rock and when I was young and impetuous, I would think, "Doesn't that person know how important this is? Of course, they don't know what it's like being young!".
Now that I'm old, I can so appreciate their wisdom and wish that I could have gleaned some of it back then.

Thank you jackfu. I miss the wisdom of my Dad and Uncle and Cousin Pat who could always make me feel so much at ease when they were around. But I am lucky that I will always remember what they said and shared with me and can pass it on to others. That was their gifts to me. Gifts that keep on giving. Piano, Piano my friend!

So good that Harrison Ford stood by Anne when Disney wanted to drop her from Six Days, Seven Nights following the publicity regarding her relationship with Ellen DeGeneres. Like Clint Eastwood and Sean Connery, Ford is/was an actor with real influence with studios and Anne stayed on the movie.
