With over 100,000 bucks they don't need a market. They're so far into profit at this point a market is the last thing they should be worried about. They're doing just fine and selling many more this way than they would under any other circumstances. I'm sure it will be a lovely production and labor of love.

There's just a little over ONE WEEK left in our campaign!

If we can reach our stretch goal of $135,000, everyone who buys a hardcover or softcover copy of The Jerry Goldsmith Companion (in glorious black and white) will also receive, at no additional charge, a full-color digital version of the book. If you’ve already purchased the digital edition with a print copy, you’ll get it for free. If you wish to buy the digital only, you’ll get the color version at no extra charge.

We've increased copies of the most popular hardcover edition so there are plenty available. And you can still add-on an extra copy as a backup or a gift (at a reduced price!). All editions are discounted at least 15% below retail price for the duration of the campaign.

If you know anyone who might be interested in owning a copy, please pass this along. And if you haven't yet placed an order, why not check out our kickstarter page today?

Gotta push for that $135,000.

It's a no-brainer than the digital version of these books (at the very least) is in colour... (it will presumably will cost exactly the same as the black and white version... so there's no reason I can see why this is not a standard, regardless of stretch goal)

I am still excited about this and pledged as soon as I saw this. BUT for a project that met its original goal in a matter of hours I don't understand why they couldn't incorporate the costs of a color version then. Really don't want to see these LPs and CDs in black and white. But the book itself will be invaluable.

Please consider classing it up with an art print we can hang in the wall next to the books in their shelf. The Bob Peak print, or a quality color photo of Goldsmith.

The kickstarter project has overcome it's target for more than 100.000$ so far.

I think this deserves photos with colour and not just black and white.

Over a thousand backers now.

USPS workers are going to have a backache to rival Bryce Dallas Howard's after carrying The Village almost single-handedly. (Only the OTHER Howard working on that movie gave her real help.)

May I second this statement as well?

We appreciate everyone's desire for the ultimate book, and that's what we're striving for. Unfortunately, the setup costs of printing in color are virtually the same for 1,000 books or 5,000. Without the amortization of a large print run, each individual book would cost 5 times as much. That would make the book unaffordable for most readers.

We think it's important to make the best book for the most readers.

Hold on there - your goal was 19K and you met it - what if that's all you'd gotten? You'd obviously have to print the book. You have now raised well over 100K - the math is not working for me and I'm sure for others. If you could print the book for 19K and you now have 100K over that I'm just trying to understand where that extra 100K is going exactly. Everyone is very excited about the book and I'm sure it will be wonderful. But something clearly isn't computing here for some folks.

This morning we crossed a significant milestone, with over 1000 backers of The Jerry Goldsmith Companion: Celebrating A Musical Legend We are overwhelmed by the love you all have shown for Jerry and his work. So we are both pleased and honored to offer this token of our appreciation, courtesy of The Goldsmith Odyssey podcast.

If you aren’t familiar with this podcast, now celebrating five years and over 100 episodes, we highly recommend that you seek it out, for their chronological journey through Goldsmith’s filmography, as well as interviews, previews and more (available wherever you listen to podcasts, or at their site here). They've even talked at length with Jeff Bond about his progress on The JG Companion itself.

Back in 2020, the Odyssey was thrilled to record an audio commentary for the Rimini Editions Blu-ray release of John Milius’ 1975 action-adventure The Wind and the Lion. The audio track features all four members of the team (W. David Lichty, Yavar Moradi, Jens Dietrich, and Clark Provence), and places much of its emphasis on Jerry Goldsmith’s sensational score. However, given that this was a Region B release for a small boutique label, you may not have had the chance to hear it. Until now.

Clark explains, “As our way of thanking Goldsmith fans for supporting this ambitious book project, we’re pleased to offer an audio-only version of this commentary to all backers (in advance of releasing this track to the general public at a later date). It includes a newly-recorded introduction, which concludes with a countdown that will aid you in syncing the track to the beginning of the film when you watch it at home. We hope you enjoy it!”

The commentary will be made available shortly after the conclusion of the campaign. Until then, many thanks!

As someone who's done his share of Kickstarters, Bruce, you know that the total includes shipping, fees and lots of costs not reflected directly in the product itself. Suffice to say that we took a risk with a low bid and now we can comfortably deliver what we promised, and more.

I am a little confused how this other comparable Kickstarter for a $100 enormous coffee table book can afford to be full color, hard shell slipcase, gatefold inserts, a bookmark, a couple DVDs and Blu Rays of interviews, and a whole collection of 20 lithographs and art prints when they met their goal of only $35K

Simple. Those were all stretch goals that they added because they raised $393,000.

No, those were all when they reached $90K, which is still less than the Goldsmith.

How many pages is that GI Joe coffee table book?

This one’s 900 pages and had to be split into two volumes. Manufacturing two books, not one. Double the binding. Plus Joe posted something about *recent* printing price increases making it un-viable. It’s possible the makers of the GI Joe book last year got in under the wire before color printing costs went up.

The Kickstarter is about to pass $125K now which is amazing. But it’s not as if that number is profit. Kickstarter takes a big percentage cut, shipping is going to cost a bundle, and it’s a lot more expensive to manufacture 1200 units each of two book volumes than 200 units each, I’ll wager.

Yavar
