If he directs, will he also compose? Or would he be too busy in post-production to be able to manage those duties as well, I wonder? Maybe writes a few key sequences or themes and has the amazing Nami Melumad take over for the bulk of it? I'm pretty much sold on all her future endeavors at this point. Her writing on Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond was like Giacchino in his PRIME (of course to be fair, Juliette's Theme itself is prime Giacchino). Yavar

Good for him, if true. I was wondering if this were unprecedented... Has a film composer ever before shifted into the director's chair? Then I recalled that John Ottman had directed a few films, but he was also known for being an editor. John Ottman is indeed the only other example I can think of. I had hoped that winning an Oscar would also give him some cloud to direct another film.

Yes, I also thought the credit Ottman received for BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY (winning the Oscar for editing, but with many acknowledging his contribution in connecting the work of two directors to help achieve a HUGE hit on a troubled production). But things have been pretty quiet on the Ottman front for a while now (the pandemic probably didn't help him with momentum either). I wonder if Giacchino will assign some composing work on his film to his kids, as he has done in the past on some of his scores. If there's one thing rife in Hollywood it's nepotism. However, it is a big(ish) Marvel MCU film, so he might not have that much freedom to choose, being a first time director and all (unless he SAYS he's scoring it himself) Ottman has recently been a consulting producer and one-time (so far) director on "Star Trek: Discovery." "Werewolf By Night" isn't "a big(ish) Marvel MCU film," it's a big(ish) Marvel Halloween special for Disney+. Also, Giacchino already directed an animated "Star Trek" short ("Ephraim and Dot") that ran on Paramount+. (Which, yes, he scored.)

I'm not sure if John Harrison had directed any of the ads and industrials he produced before hooking up with George Romero's crew, but he was scoring features before he was directing them.
