Another little gem I just discovered (and ordered immediately):

The Green Trilogy
by Deionarra

https://rustypilgrim.bandcamp.com/album/the-green-trilogy

Great minds...I picked that one up a couple weeks ago, haha. Been slacking on posts here, sorry buddy! Will get back on it pretty soon here!

Deionarra's pretty good. A varied journey, mostly chill, some great melodies. You'll enjoy it.

My copy arrived today, spinning it now, and whoa buddy I'm digging it. Chill was the first word that came to mind (great minds, indeed), then melancolic, but the organic rhythms and occasional beats keep things moving along steadily. Meanwhile, dusk simmers behind the treetops outside my window while the oustretched rays of the sun desperately seek purchase on the ever-receding landscape...

Latest aural hijinks!

Currently listening to ---

NAHTSKELDUZ's "Stronghold of the Skeletal Keep." A nice DS collection of dreamy synth and dark ambient. Released on Dark Adversary so it's tremendously painful to track down (unless one wants to pay the over $20 shipping from Australia) - seek out on Discogs or hopefully eventually on Hells Headbangers. APOXUPON's "How the Garden Grows." The first in apparently a few upcoming dungeon/comfy synth CD releases from new label Engraven. This one's a good mix of low-key DS with liberal field recording / nature sounds. JAAPORTIT's "Kauan Koskematon / Halki Lumisen Metsan." The first portion of this album is an early dungeon/winter synth release I had no idea about! I knew more recent Jaaportit albums were more post-rock and didn't know winter synth was in his catalog. Great stuff!! Got this one real cheap from Ajna, seek it out.

Coming soon / en route ---

LANDSRAAD's "The Golden Path." VERY excited for this one!! Was released last year, first on cassette, then in a lavish box set by Violet Nebula...but cost + shipping was huge, so I passed. The artist is offering just the CD from that box set by itself, making it affordable; don't miss this one!! GOBLIN FORT's "Heroes and Hobgoblins." Droning DS from the prolific Myst (CONIFEROUS MYST, SERPENT'S ISLE). Didn't want to pass this one up; sounds just like described as music set to D&D adventuring. MURGRIND's "The Power of Yourself." It's MURGRIND...need I say more? FOGWEAVER's "Labyrinthine" from Out of Season's release batch yesterday. I never pass on FOGWEAVER, one of my faves. I passed on their other two CD releases, FOREST TEMPLE and SHADOW DUNGEON. The former sounds like something I'd only listen to 1-2 times before it began to gather dust, and I really wasn't a fan of the latter's debut.

Otherwise been listening to lots of space ambient, namely GDANIAN's "Induction," LONEWARD's "Our Unyielding Sky," and VG soundtracks like Victor Vran and 7th Sector!

Four releases from the brand new Virginian label Relics of the Eternal City; CDs limited to 15 copies each so act fast! I believe these CDs are the first such releases by these artists to date. And though I’m unsure if these are new artists or ones using different monickers, I’m relatively certain that Dyvyná at least is Elminster. Just so happens that release sounds more interesting to me than the rest…

Dyvyná - Within the Walls of the Promised Kingdom
Cimmerian Fury - Singing Steel
Unsheathed Glory - Awakening of Skyfrost Tower
Ancestral Sword - Eternal Solitude

Unsheathed Glory for me. Thanks dude!

Missed GOBLIN FORT, unfortunately, but I ordered all three new OOS releases (the only one I've played so far is SHADOW DUNGEON, and I enjoyed it very much despite the vocal recitations, which are a huge turnoff for me in DS).

AGREED 100%. That's the exact reason why I couldn't even get through Shadow Dungeon's debut album, and why I steered clear of the new one.

NP: Lunar Womb ~ The Sleeping Green

I don't even remember how this came onto my radar, but I bought this CD recently and have given it a couple spins so far and it's oh so good. More lighthearted and melodic than DS for the most part, but it has moments of heroic gallantry and reflective longing and wouldn't sound at all out of place in the Legend of Zelda musicverse. It was actually recorded in the late '90s and the artist is/was also a member of folk/black metal bands Moonsorrow and Fintroll, which I also (mostly) dig. Highly recommended.

Buy CD (factory pressed, not CDr): https://hospitalproductions.bandcamp.com/merch/lunar-womb-the-sleeping-green-cd

A fantastic find, J!!! Thank you! This sounds right up my alley and I ordered immediately. Not sure why I hadn’t already seen this…I was on Hospital Productions’ Bandcamp list last I checked…? Oh well. Much appreciated!

Here’s an interesting one I’ve been spinning over and over lately: GLAMOURIE’s “Imaginal Stage.” It is decidedly not dungeon synth at all, but rather, an eccentric mix of folk, ambient, and electroacoustic sounds. I mention it here because to me at least, it just screams Skyrim and The Shire in equal measure, along with being an entrancing and enigmatic listen all in its own right. Heck, the Bandcamp description covers the sound pretty well from an organic standpoint: “Navigating between postminimalism, ancient music and psychedelic folk, the one-man band uses tonal scales, rich textures and haunting patterns to evoke fantastical themes.” Highly recommended!!

A few new releases from Myst and co. today, limited to 10 copies each:

https://wizardiscs.bandcamp.com/merch/wdr-050-sunken-dungeons-iii-cdr

https://wizardiscs.bandcamp.com/merch/wdr-051-cthylla-compilation-cdr

https://serpentsisle.bandcamp.com/album/sirens-of-the-ancient-sea?from=fanpub_fnb_merch

I snatched up Longsword and Serpent's Isle but passed on Cthylla since it isn't DS but guitar-based atmospheric black metal (not that there's anything wrong with that). wink

Thanks for posting buddy! I saw the emails while working and barely had time to grab the one in which I was interested, Serpent’s Isle. Couldn’t get away from the work to post an announcement too, so I’m glad you did, and more glad you saw it in enough time to score some CDs! Yeah, I was meh on the other two releases, the latter for the same reason as you.

Sounds like Myst is finally through his dubbing backlog, so I’m looking forward to getting the Coniferous Myst / Dragon Spell split soon!

LANDSRAAD - The Golden Path

Utterly fantastic! The debut from this UK artist is a concept album based around Frank Herbert’s Dune universe. And it’s frighteningly good. The mysterious and enigmatic blend of 70s synth, Berlin school, space ambient and airy dungeon synth really conjures images of vast open spaces and forlorn conflict. The music takes lots of twists and turns throughout and keeps the listener on their toes while challenging them to not become too entranced with the grandiose and beautiful passages therein. Do NOT sleep on this one! Available on CD through Violet Nebula (in a lavish box set), or below through the artist’s Bandcamp page, where he offers the CD in an A5 case at a vastly reduced shipping cost, but still includes the box set contents like a poster, fabric flag, and a satchel containing some authentic imitation sand of Arrakis!

Wow, you weren't kidding, Josh. Lunar Womb is wonderful!! So beautiful and entrancing. Thanks again for pointing me to this one; as I said, it should have been on my radar but wasn't.

Did you get in on Bandcamp Friday last week? Lots of great releases. I partook in ordering the following:

OLD SORCERY - Dragon Citadel Elegies (Dungeons Deep)
New album on CD! His first in two years.
https://oldsorcery.bandcamp.com/album/dragon-citadel-elegies

Ancient King Records' 2022 batch! Been waiting for a long time for these!
********
SKHEMTY - Sunrise on the Old Kingdom
Egyptian dungeon synth, sounds oh so good!!
https://skhemty.bandcamp.com/album/sunrise-on-the-old-kingdom

WERESS - Au-Dela des Lieux Legendaires
Cosmic DS, sounds very similar to their first album, also available via AKR's distro.
https://weress.bandcamp.com/album/au-del-des-lieux-l-gendaires

FEUDUM - Unspoken Arcane Mysteries
A new artist - sounds like wintry/ethereal/modern DS, right up my alley.
https://ancientkingrec.bandcamp.com/album/unspoken-arcane-mysteries
********

And, not DS, but if you like cinematic video game music, it's hard to go wrong with anything Rozen puts out. This is his most recent release, a bit darker in nature, and sounding all the better for it!!! CD doesn't ship until Feb 2023, unfortunately.
ROZEN - Shadows of Hyrule

Yep, I picked up the new Old Sorcery last Friday as well. Really looking forward to that!

The others you posted about are tempting, but I'm trying to hold off on any more new purchases until next month, so I hope they stick around for a while. October is a super expensive month for us, with my wife's bday, mother-in-law's bday, Halloween and our wedding anniversary (we got married on Halloween). eek

I’m thinking they’ll stick around, you should be safe. The dungeon synth “masses” probably haven’t picked up the scent of Ancient King just yet. Haha! And good luck with all the important spending, my friend!!

TOAD SAGE - The Subterranean Era

I didn’t like this one. It’s a compilation CD with songs hand-picked from the multitude of demo albums Toad Sage released since 2018. There were moments of greatness, such as the ethereal and mysterious “Exploring a Frozen Dead Planet,” but I found on the whole, the compilation lacked direction and inspiration, and felt monotonous throughout. I actually did something I almost never do on the second track, “In the Garden No Mortal Should Enter”: I skipped to the next song. Just found that one particularly grating, and had that itch a couple more times through to the end (but didn’t scratch but the once). Ah well, they can’t all be winners.
