Incidentally there aren't many hookers on Hollywood Blvd. so I suggest walking a couple blocks south to Sunset Blvd. and a few blocks west for the good stuff.
I wouldn't say nobody knows or cares about John Barry. During his career he had much better name recognition both in the film circuit and in the public eye than most film composers.
I would say yes, but I would also say it doesn't really matter. It's just vanity. It's the music that counts.
Cheers
I agree. He still has around 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify. His Dunbar theme has 19 million plays. He was never a rock star like Zimmer, Horner, Williams, but I wouldn't say nobody knows John Barry.
To me, a well respected composer that nobody knows is someone like Gabriel Yared.
First of all, back in the late 50s/early 60s John Barry was, literally, a rock star. Then his film composing career took off and he achieved a level of fame as a film composer that was unique. Columbia Records signed him to a contract. The Saturday Review and Time Magazine ran features on him in the U.S. In England his comings and goings were regularly covered in the press. He definitely had a certain cachet outside of the world of film music fans.

Actually, I'd say he was. In the 60s, Barry was the rock star of movie music, and the recognition he got in the 60s echoed through the rest of his career.
He was one of the most talked about and sought after film composer in the 60s.
