I donated my old HBO'S ROME on DVD set to the library and am now playing the Blu-ray set. It's been some years since I've seen this series, but damn does it hold up well! The Blu-ray is far better than the original dvd's. The richness of the colors and the art-direction, costumes, hair and makeup, and the characters acted as though each one was created just for the part! Jeff Beal's score is all enveloping when it needs to be - I love his opening credits music! Right now, Director Michael Apted has shown his command of the first few episodes, the man knew his craft!
What I'm finding to be the most engaging aspect of this whole enormous spectacle are the two leading men. Kevin McKidd's morose Lucius Vorenus and his co-star, Ray Stevenson as Titus Pullo. I'm enjoying Pullo's rebelliousness and never-ending sexual appetites. The two men act either separately or together, as ONE. They play off one another perfectly. Ciaran Hind as Juliius Caesar and James Purefoy's Mark Antony are spectacular. I wish the music could be re-released, but it's been so long ago as well. But I'd put this series up alongside 'Ben-Hur' any day!

Yup, a brilliant series, & the Blu-ray looks superb. The funny thing is, season one has a massive amount of nudity, nearly everyone gets their kit off, but season two hasn't any (maybe one person).
