Dave, we had this thread before which you may find has some useful information... https://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=114932&forumID=7&archive=0 Re-reading this tells me that Edw has the best information. Thanks David. Not sure but I have really expanded my collection and have fully intended to go through my collection and offer some opinions and recommendations. As you know from personal experience, I have trouble finding the time to just sit down and do it. Year end at work along with some renovations going on here and at my son's new house have me spread pretty thin lately. I will definitely (mean it) sit down on Friday or Saturday to go over what I have and make some suggestions. I;m going to pull some out this work to listen to in preparation. Hello, Edw. My two emails to you keep coming back to me. Your email address is unknown, or something. Maybe it's on my end, but I've typed it correctly. Did you forget to pay your internet provider again?

To edwzoomom: I received my 3-disc set of 'The Capitol Years' this afternoon. Still awaiting 'The Best of the Best' which has 'It Was a Very Good Year' on it. It will take some time to take all these songs in, but I'm content!

Have you seen this YouTube clip of It Was A Very Good Year in the recording studio? https://youtu.be/Zh0rwbtI9Ro THANK YOU, Thomas! I've heard the song countless times, and yet this video is new to me, I've never seen Sinatra as he recorded the song before. This video, and his determination to get it absolutely right, is a revelation. The performance just 'cuts to the heart'. And such an expressive conductor, who was he?

It's not a comment I hear often of late and I loved reading that. Happy listening. I gathered my box sets of "The Columbia Years 1943-1952, The Complete Recordings", YOUVE GOT ALL 12 CD'S? Lucky dog!

EDW: An update! The 3-disc set of The Capitol Years plays out, for me, as an extended vacation without having to leave my four walls. Luxuriating. However, I find that the single disc of 'The Best of The Best', is my favorite. It has songs on it that I enjoy (just a bit more), than the 3-dsic set. 'New York, New York', 'Fly me to the Moon', 'That's Life', 'Something Stupid', 'My Kind of Town', 'Mack the Knife', and of course 'It Was a Very Good Year'. All in all I can kick myself for not having gotten these decades ago but, there it is. I even learned from the disc that Frank Sinatra has his very own website. Ah, but of course!

Oh MD, that's wonderful to hear. I love the extended vacation metaphor. It made me smile just as much as your previous expression "I'm content". What I've always found interesting about Sinatra and is really a wonderful thing is how so many fans have specific periods of his career that they prefer over others. I've had some friends tell me they only loved his later years which include the songs you reference and another told me (a co-worker from some years back) that she loved his "swoon" tunes from her and his younger days. So glad to hear you are enjoying your new lot.

I've got all 12 now. I bought the set on eBay knowing that 2 discs were missing (I don't recall which ones at this point). My luck came about when I was able to buy the missing discs on eBay and Amazon respectively for a decent price before I purchased the set on eBay. The set was pristine and the 2 discs I bought were the same and thus I completed the 12. What always confused me was why the seller didn't just purchase the 2 discs like I did and sell as a complete set - he could have asked a higher price I'm sure and maybe made a profit? Not sure but I was lucky, yes. Nice story. Better than mine: I was at an estate sale some years ago. I saw books for "lyrics of (great american songbook writer)" and cd's of jazz. I also saw Sinatra cd's with reproduction covers, scattered in multiple rooms. I recalled that it was part of a set and began to gather them. But then I decided I didn't want that much Sinatra, so I left off. I could have had them for 2 clams each. Now I'm kicking myself.
