Just my own personal observation, while this 20 Cd set or whatever it is it’s great

However the real treasure trove is if anybody could go back in and review the radio concerts that the Pops was doing back in the early 80s with Williams conducting that have a number of real interesting items that he never recorded.

I seem to remember a piece he did which was based on a cue from “Monsignor” that was really kind of interesting.

Anyone else remember those radio concerts?

Agreed. Another treasure trove is the televised concerts. I'm surprised that they haven't been restored and presented on video - even if in standard def.

Apparently it's a nightmare in terms of clearance because of the many copyright-protected works performed, guest appeareances (including many who are sadly no longer with us so you have to get clearance from their heirs) and specific residuals for the BSO musicians that need to be calculated.

No doubting you, just curious if you have a source for this. All these concerts were on Public Television, which means they were publicly funded. If they were made available for free online, I'm not for sure this would be an issue.

I don't know the specifics of the Boston Pops, but publicly funded does not mean publicly owned. Performers were still paid and (as Mario points out) all copyright was still applicable.

Music clearance for television was a different beast back then. I'm sure you've heard about the challenges of bringing WKRP IN CINCINNATI and THE MUPPET SHOW to home video. The union and publishing agreements didn't envision home video or non-network distribution. I had hoped that some agreements could allow for parts of the Boston Pops television legacy to be transferred to other media but clearly that's a big challenge.

Still not available for preorder at Amazon UK. I would be surprised if it is cheaper than getting it direct from Decca at £49.99 plus pp making it around £54.99 for UK purchasers.

This has now been listed on Amazon UK for a whopping £117.45, almost double the price that of purchasing directly from Decca.

Has anyone ever brought directly from Decca? How is the packaging and returns policy for default products etc. Really appreciate any help before ordering this set. Thanks.
