Wow. This is the most "Trek" sounding soundtrack since The Orville (or Star Trek Enterprise)... I like it. I really like it. The order of the tracks is totally random, needs a lot of re-shuffling to create a good flow. My favorites so far:

-Main / End Titles
-Leg Day
-City Escape
-What Are Your Orders, Captain?
-Saying Goodbye
-The Cerritos
-The Real Mariner

But I don't think that I give this show another try... I just don't like animations, especially in Trek. In fact, since Enterprise's bad finale "These Are The Voyages..." I disliked every new Star Trek. It just don't work for me anymore... Every show now tries to be anything excluding Star Trek:

JJ Films: Space action instead of opera
Discovery: Game of Thrones in space (Discovery has about the same quality writing like GoT S7 & 8)
Picard: X-Men's "Logan", but stretched over 10 episodes (wtf is this show?)
Lower Decks: Simpsons / Family Guy (I don't like animations and I dislike them even more if they have Star Trek in their name)

It just don't work for me that these shows co-exist in the same universe with TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY & ENT. My Star Trek canon ends just before ENT's last episode because for me fan fiction level of bad writing, f-bombs, sex, unlikeable characters, violence, too many lense-flares & animations don't belong into this franchise.
Alex Kurtzman should try something new: Making a ST show, that feels like a ST show. I would watch it.

In fact, the only show that captures the 90' Star Trek feeling is The Orville (not completely but compared to DIS, PIC & LD it's by far the closest IMHO).

Bingo! Perfectly stated. Took the words right out of my mouth.

Okay, gotta admit, the sound samples are good! Reminds me of Debney and McNeely.

Tremendous score for a tremendous show!

Here's the thing: your first three show complaints here (whether one agrees with them or not) are about *content* while your issues with Lower Decks seem entirely based on form: you don't like animation. Well, okay, but that doesn't mean that Lower Decks = The Simpsons or Family Guy. You haven't seen it, so you obviously don't realize that it actually does end up embodying most of the things that made Star Trek great in his heyday, and it is very very different from the other three things you griped about.

Sex and violence has always been in Star Trek; it's a question of degree. Lower Decks has the right degree, and furthermore has likable characters, good writing, and a true love and understanding of pre-Kurtzman Star Trek. smile But hey, it's animated, so I guess you'll ignore all the rest of it?

Alex Kurtzman should try something new: Making a ST show, that feels like a ST show. I would watch it.

Maybe Kurtzman just isn't the right person to be making Star Trek! And luckily, he has had very little input into Lower Decks.

In fact, the only show that captures the 90' Star Trek feeling is The Orville (not completely but compared to DIS, PIC & LD it's by far the closest IMHO).

I love The Orville too and agree with you about its loving homage to 80s-90s Trek... but the thing is, if you can get over the animation, Lower Decks does something very similar. Try to look past your superficial dislike of the form (animation) and I think you'd really get into the Trek content by the end of the season, and realize it's absolutely nothing like Discovery, Picard, or the Abramsverse.

I have no interest in the show, but I'll sample the score just out of curiosity.

There is some meaty writing in this. Seems very much from the 80s school of scoring which is still better than modern scoring for pure listening enjoyment. Nicely written and orchestrated.

It's a nice theme, but I can't shake "Soarin' Over California," which is its obvious inspiration. There are worse things to be inspired by, of course!

I feel the same about the f-bombs and certain scenes. We may be in the minority. But a great many children will watch the animation (regardless if it's meant for adult) and I've felt Star Trek should be a treasure trove for ideas, not other stuff.

I thought the theme is a bit like the Orville. Probably because of the I to minor V chord which both use

Westlake does a good job here. I'm not as enamored of the show as others here are, but it can be funny. (I stood on a long valet line with the creator of the show a couple of years ago, and his love for the material was infectious.) The music does what it should – it tells us we're boldly going places and it strikes a nice balance, letting the audience in on the joke of the slightly pushed grandiosity without making the music silly. Westlake's duty is to the series, and he's acquitted himself well there.

But as an album, it's really not much to listen to. It's a lot of short cues that remind us of the things it's affectionately parodying, then moving on to the next thing without making much of a statement.

Westlake clearly has talent, and maybe there's some other project that will allow him to shine more apart from the thing he's scoring.

Sums it up perfectly.

It may surprise some here but I agree the album is somewhat disappointing (though I’m still very grateful to have it). I suspect this mostly stems from the fact that cues (from both seasons of the show!) are totally jumbled together with no apparent rhyme or reason — but presumably with “listening experience” in mind. Well, in terms of MY listening experience, it sucks. There is no musical development one can latch onto, no dramatic build or sense of story. And since this is not “absolute music” by any means, IMO it NEEDS that story/dramatic build/thematic development to function well as a listening experience.

I’m pretty sure I remember it having some, in show context, which I admired. But on album all of that is lost. It’s as if you’re listening to a film music album on Spotify without realizing “shuffle” is on…only there’s no way to easily fix it (has anyone here attempted to put together a chronological playlist?)

The wonderful Orville scores were lucky enough to get chronological (though alas not complete) releases from LLL. I can only imagine what people’s reaction to those scores would have been if they had been similarly all jumbled up.

I was delighted to realise that the best music from last week's episode - "S2.09 Wej Duj" - is included. The Klingon stuff in particular. And some fantastic Horner-isms. And what a terrific episode that was - especially that closing shot of Lower Decks life on a Borg Cube!

I absolutely love this show and I think the very generously-lengthed album is just fine. Wonderful, nostalgic Trek music.

I tried to make a playlist with at least a bit flow. Nothing chronological and whittled down to 64 minutes. I tried to make this sound like one long episode with an beginning, middle and end. This may not work if you watched the show and know the context of the tracks.

Wow! What a surprise.....

This is exactly the kind of acoustical and orchestral scoring I like.
Totally vintage Silver Age tribute.

May be the themes could have been better developped but there are nevertheless many nice ideas.
This will anyway perfectly second our two THE ORVILLE 2 CD sets.

If somebody wants to know what's the opposite to sound design, here it is!
Everybody will understand what I mean....within the context.
Just see the top 3 threads on the board....
