It's been a while. If you're a fan of BB (and I am a huge fan of his music) you can only give BIG thanks to Intrada for the work they've done and the scores they've released, down the years, in support of this great film composer. I haven't checked, but this feels like the longest time we've gone without a new score or expanded re-issue of something by him, from Intrada. I know they've been working on a collection of his Theme Park music at Disney, which is stuck in the pipe at the moment, but I sure do miss those releases of some little heard TV movie score or low-budget feature film of which, usually, the BB music is the best thing about it. I'd love to have scores like BIG SHOTS or SWEET LIBERTY or HOPE SPRINGS or... (add your unreleased Bruce Broughton title here). I don't think I saw his name on their composer roster for this year either. Does he still have many fans who would buy his stuff without pause?
Lord only knows who holds the rights to Jacknife, but I would love to see a release of that.
Comedy scores don’t do big numbers, I know, but as long as we’re speculating, a combo release of Krippendorf’s Tribe and Betsy’s Wedding would be nice.
I'm kinda hot or cold when it comes to Broughton. (much like Debney) Love Lost in Space, J*A*G, Rescuers Down Under and one or two of his western scores, to name a few.
Would love an Intrada release of The Master of Ballantrae.
Yes you beat me to it. I seldom listen to the Prometheus disc as the sound is so poor but a remastered edition of this rousing score would be tremendous.
Thanks to INTRADA I discovered Broughton's score to "Carried Away". Terrific score with some lovely writing for strings, solo winds and piano. The penultimate cue "At The Ocean" breaks my heart every time I hear it. So yes, more Broughton please
Carried Away is my favorite Broughton score, I think… took me quite a few years to arrive at that realization because he has a lot of scores which are more flashy and immediately enjoyable. But this subtle understated drama score is just SO good. If there is any more of it to release I would buy an expanded edition in a heartbeat. Same goes for Shadow Conspiracy and The Old Man and the Sea if Intrada ever feels like revisiting either of those two… oh, and True Women! Over time I’ve come to realize that’s my favorite Broughton western even over Tombstone.
Good to see some love for CARRIED AWAY, a really nice - and beautifully understated - score. INFINITY is another one I would add to that category. I do like JACKNIFE (and have a terrible sounding boot) but it's not at the top of my most wanted unreleased BB scores.
Maybe Night Ride Home would be nice for a release? I seem to remember the opening titles being kinda nice on that one. Not sure about the whole score.
I remember so hoping this would be released when I saw the movie. Still am.
I believe I have just about everything released of Broughton's, he's in my top five of composers. I have to agree about Carried Away and Infinity - they may not be my favorites of his scores, but they are definitely among his best.
