This score has to be next on some label's list of long overdue expansions and remasterings. The sound is so bad and muffled on my original MCA LP and CD - and it has a high-pitched tone in some tracks, like a tinnitus experience!

This fantasy cover was just cobbled together in 5 minutes but I like this poster artwork much more than the Cruise face one:

Just listening to it right now. Williams' unique Americana voice, his way of musically encompassing and painting some of the big American tragedies of the 20th century, not only Vietnam but also JFK and NIXON, is so heartbreaking and musically rewarding.

Bring it on. I'll be first in line to buy it.

I adore this score.
One of the best!

Intrada is working on this.

Are you serious? Any info on that already? Did I miss something maybe? :-)

While I'm always happy to see an expanded edition of a John Williams score, especially if it contains substantial new material, I'm always longing more for completely unreleased scores that Mike M might have ground down JW to allow to see the light of day, like THE SECRET WAYS, or THE PLAINSMAN or THE RARE BREED, or STORY OF A WOMAN or THE SUGARLAND EXPRESS.

Has to be a candidate for a remastered, extended release.

Yes , please bring on expansions and premieres of the greatest film composer alive today... our hero John Williams.

Is there substantial new material for an expanded Born On 4th July?

Is there not an unmentionable that's been around for years with a lot of unreleased stuff on there?

I quite like the selection on the existing release, never even noticed bad sound quality!

Yes Thomas, there is.
I've always been quite happy with the 25 minutes of highlights on the original song/score CD release and find the expanded boot to be a chore to sit through overall.
I'd buy a legit expansion from one of our labels, no doubt, but Bo4J is way down on my personal wants list.

afn,
A few months ago, I asked Intrada if they were planning to release an expanded "Born On 4th July" and Mr. Feigelson replied, "There is no reason why this could not happen ..."

But, is no specific information yet.

I'd be up for an expansion -- though I admit I find Williams' collaboration with Oliver Stone the least-impressive of his long-term collaborations with a director.

I'd much, much prefer an expanded Witches of Eastwick.

I had the....uhm, 'unmentionable' once, and it didn't add anything noteworthy that isn't already on the existing soundtrack. Just more of the dissonant Vietnam music and the like, as far as I remember. Or more variations of the Americana stuff. Beautiful score, but also beautifully curated on the song/score soundtrack album. Just perfect as is.

Really? An expanded WoE? The original CD is already quite repetitive IMHO, what is there to expand?

And yes, of course I'd like to see any hitherto unreleased Williams!

Funny! I have the same feelings towards the recent ALWAYS expansion:

I've always been quite happy with the 46 minutes of highlights on the original song/score CD release and find the expanded CD to be a chore to sit through overall.

"Dance of the Witches" appears twice on the original album. Why Williams did this I don't know, but I agree it was redundant.

However there is a there is a good amount of fine music not included -- in particular a terrific cue for the scene when Veronica Cartright slips and breaks her leg, which continues on into the scene when Cher first meets Nicholson.

The cue for Michelle Pfeiffer's visit to the hospital is very good as well. The film version of "Maleficio" is longer, and "The Destruction of Daryl" is also longer in the film (with a solo organ passage which was cut for the album).

I prefer the stuff that has not yet had a release but expansions are fine
