I don't think that this wonderful work has ever been discussed on the forum. Thomas Newman considers this to be his most underrated score.

I have always loved how the strange environment of the film inspired Newman's score. It is just a superb mood score. It makes a splendid companion to Elliot Goldenthal's Golden Gate - another superb mood score which was written almost around the same time. Sadly, I don't think that amazing mood scores such as these get enough attention and credit in general.

I totally agree with Newman that it is his most underrated score, this is in fact my second most listened to Newman score and I certainly prefer it over most of his more popular works. It might be odd to most people, but I listen to this more than say The Shawshank Redemption for example.

Does anyone else here like Flesh and Bone as much as I do? I just love Newman's work so much, he is one of my top 5 favorite composers.

I like the score too. I love Newman's period from the mid 80s to the mid 90s, whether it was synth-driven or more quirky, acoustic ensembles (or fullblown, orchestral Americana). But I have to admit I haven't listened to it much since I acquired it a few years ago. Thanks for the reminder!

I'm not familiar with the movie but this score has a bleak, haunting beauty that rewards repeat plays.

I remember renting the VHS when the film was new. The score was ok, but I never bought it.

Josh and S.A.M by Thomas Newman is a soundtrack on the same way.

That's more typical synth than FLESH & BONE. But yes -- JOSH AND SAM is a superb score, even better.

Thanks for reminding me I need to pick this up. I never got around to buying the CD. Just got the movie on Blu-ray and looking forward to seeing it again. I really like that original cover art.

Josh and Sam is indeed another superb score - another one which I don't think have been discussed on this board. I love both scores. It might sound odd to most people, but I find myself going back to scores like these two more often than some of Newman's more popular scores, like Shawshank for example.

I'll try to catch both Flesh and Bone and Josh and Sam, both of which I've never seen ,on Prime this weekend. Both strong scores by Newman. 1993 was a good year for him

That was certainly a welcome surprise! I love this score and had no idea it could ever get an expanded release. I wonder how much and what was left out the original release. I hope that there will be more Newman releases in the future.
