We're getting rid of things in the basement and came across a tv/vcr combo and I've been using it ever since. I've been buying pre-recorded movies on ebay. I just ordered the film HAPPY NEW YEAR for the Conti score, it's not available on any other format. I also have a Phil Collins concert video that came with a cd. How about you guys?

It's been ages since I've had one that worked!
I have a 3 or 4 sitting in a corner of the garage that I keep meaning to take to the disposal depot but I just never seem to get around to it.
My aim is to get a small inexpensive unit to keep around, for the simple reason that a still have a ton of old VHS movies that will never see the light on any other format.
In the old days they multiplied like tribbles!
A small VHS/DVD combo would do the trick nicely too, I think.
Maybe one with it's own monitor.

The one I just found belonged to my grandparents so it's nice to have around for that reason too!

Sure. I still have several tapes I made taking down things from TV (including some local shows not available anywhere else) in the 1990s. I still rewatch them every now and then; still in fine shape. I don't, however, ever tape or copy things anymore.

I have a Sony superbetamax hi-fi which I was supposed to watch an old tape yesterday, but I forgot to.

It will have to be a used model. The last new VHS machine was manufactured in July 2016 by Japan’s Funai Electric. (The VHS format debuted in 1977, so it had a nearly 40-year run.) I'm down to my last working VHS machine. (At one time, I had three.)

I bought a panasonic dvd-vhs recorder whereby you record vhs to hard drive and then from there to dvdr. Can also edit.
Its great. Its perfect for copying, and rescuing old vhs stuff, especially family functions n weddings from 30 years ago.

I use this as my dvd player too.

I have one but I don't use it for video. I use it for audio.

Since it has the handy timer recording I use it to record radio shows I like for playback on the weekends when I have time to listen. Decades ago I used cassette tapes for that but a VHS tape has six hours running time so it's very convenient to use.

Not for a great many years. Once they stop making the players, then that's the beginning of the end, as one by one the players stop working (esp. a VCR player, with all those moving parts).

For sound, I still use my Minidisc player/recorder from time to time & my Sony CD recorder soldiers on.

I still have a VHS/DVD combo player and it works quite nicely. I also still use it occasionally, especially around Christmas as I have some specials that I either haven't upgraded yet or prefer the VHS over the remastered version (The Little Drummer Boy is a particular example of this case due to botched audio restoration on current editions of this).

I had one of those 13in TV/VCR combo's. I won it at work when we had a Christmas raffle. Sadly I got rid of it a long time ago with all my old VCR's which were still in working order.

I have a bunch of stuff on VHS that is not available in any other format. Ive been meaning to pay the bucks to have a professional company transfer them to DVD.

I still have a vcr but I can't seem to use it with my smart TV. Maybe I have to try again.

Had been fun to see some of my old tapes.

I still use both VHS and Beta for accessing material I have that is otherwise unavailable.

Not since our last one died in '09. I have stuff that needs to be converted to disc, but it'll probably never happen.

No, but I never really collected movies on VHS or so, as the format had too many problems. I used VCRs to watch rented movies or tape something from TV. While I still have a few tapes, I have not had a VCR in use in, I dunno, close to 20 years.

Question guys, do four heads give you a much better picture than just two?

No I do not still using vcr. However with that said I did save some old films on video that is probably not released otherwise (to my knowledge anyway).

God, I've forgotten so much of the tech.
I think 4 heads was only an advantage when we did a lot of actual recording--as opposed to just playback.

I still use my Laserdic player.
