Orchestral themes that became songs, and themes that started as songs. LOVE STORY and DOCTOR ZHIVAGO are the former. I think "Moon River" and "Over the Rainbow" are the latter. Usually a film theme either has to be a song or become a song to have a likelihood of being widely covered. (See above.)    Posted:   Jun 17, 2021 - 12:48 PM     By:   Steven Lloyd   (Member) It makes sense that the most-covered songs ("Over the Rainbow," "White Christmas") would have been among the oldest, from not just popularity but longevity. My own guess was Bronislau Kaper's "Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo," from his Oscar-winning LILI (1953). That movie opened before I was born, yet I grew up learning its song because so many different renditions continued to get radio airplay throughout my childhood, as well as performances by multiple middle-of-road vocalists on TV variety shows.
