Obviously it's the "can't stop" part which I'd consider a problem, but you do you I guess.

Yavar

If something is funny, you laugh. Like all the issues with Lionheart. That’s a good one that always gives me a chuckle.

You and your "all the issues" give me a chuckle. It's so desperate and pathetic. Care to list all these supposed "issues"? Because aside from it being the score that composed itself (on one of the two spines; the other is fine) I don't believe any other issues have been brought up. Varese hasn't confirmed what was wrong with the packaging, so it's all speculation beyond that one spine matter. What do you know that we/I don't?

I'll get you started on your list:

1. "LIONHEART" was carelessly left in the composer field on one of the two spines.

2. Varese stopped shipping the title to correct errors in the packaging (beyond #1, whatever these are is mysterious). They asked no one to send back the original versions and they are supplying new corrected versions free of charge to everyone who already got a copy.

--

Now please, tell me what else there is -- can you give me issue #s 3, 4, and 5 of this supposed "complete disaster"? Maybe it's not too late for me to tell Varese what else needs to be fixed before they send out corrected versions...but I'm guessing you won't be able to tell me anything else that's wrong with the release.

And to you I guess #2 is a problem? To me #1 is obviously a minor cosmetic issue and #2 is a solution, not a problem. But I guess some people are so immature they throw a fit if they have to wait an extra 4-6 weeks for gratification. I'm also waiting on my copy as are many people here, and yet you're the only person whining/laughing/whatever about this.

Now, omitting the hammered dulcimer overlay from The Thorn Birds is a REAL Varese screwup, not cosmetic, and it was never ever fixed (or even publicly acknowledged). That one I've still never forgiven them for. Maybe if they release a longer Deluxe Edition of the score fixing that I'll finally get over it. But even that release with this significant flaw I wouldn't call "complete disaster" like you, Mr. Drama Queen. It bothers me and always will, but I'm able to enjoy and celebrate that album still.

Once you get your corrected copy of Lionheart next month, what else will you find to throw a tantrum about I wonder?

Yavar

I mean that sums it up pretty good. You forgot the crappy artwork on the back, weird credits being listed, the fact that several of us had to email Varese to get an explanation before one was given, inconsistent explanations for the problems, inconsistent pricing issues, oh and the fact that this crappy release probably costs a pretty penny to fix and replace. You don’t think this is a complete disaster because you were able to put the tracks in the right order and got a credit for doing it. Super!

I bet if you had to fund this release, you’d have a different take. It’s no different than you being pissey about people wanting Golden Age releases and that labels shouldn’t have to fund them. You think having to send new copies out and pull old ones is cheap? I think you said they have one employee. They’re really swimming in the money. It. Was. A. Complete. Disaster.

But yes , once I get my copy next month I will let you know what else is wrong.

I’m still waiting to hear if the SACD is a hybrid or not. I will get way more use out of the standard CD layer so if it is not hybrid, I probably won’t buy the SACD. For that price though, I would hope it is.

Varese Sarabande packaging errors are as old as Varese Sarabande themselves...

Even when the CD club launched.... Cherry 2000... MAJOR track listing blunder. What a first impression!

The Robe (fortunately the booklet was reprinted)

A Nightmare on Elm Street box set (the booklet was NOT reprinted, which was a horrendous decision! It was even signed by the composer whos page was missing, ON the offending page! OMG! lol)

More recently, The Haunting...

The Serpent and the Rainbow (both editions remarkably, though the first was far worse)

Lionheart, of course... (which, presumably, got fixed for legal reasons, not because it disappointed collectors)

And minor veritcal spacing irregularies on the track listings of Star Trek Beyond, Air Force One, Along Came a Spider... probably many others that I could go look at.

Oh and, ha ha, Runaway! Almost forgot "Alley Fight" which was restored to the correct "Alley Flight" on the Encore Edition...

These things are not difficult to spot.

The music is the most important thing, of course, (and I won't mention The Thorn Birds) but the cosmetics go that extra distance to reflect (or not) the quality of what lies on that shiny disc... Especially when said cosmetics are proudly branded as "deluxe" and "limited edition" with a price tag to match.

To be fair, they mostly get it right. "Mostly..." And they're not the only label to make the occasional blunder.

One wonders what awaits us with The Matrix and Paycheck...!

EDIT: I should note that my gripe isn't so much with the errors, as with their blatant disinterest in fixing them!

I mean that sums it up pretty good. You forgot the crappy artwork on the back,

There was no artwork on the back, just a textured background which was far from "crappy". People attempted custom cover art for the back using film imagery and every one was worse than the official back cover so I'm not sure what you're talking about.

weird credits being listed

So you're still hung up on my "Track Research" credit? That to you is a major problem worth complaining about? Ok, you're certifiably nuts!

the fact that several of us had to email Varese to get an explanation before one was given

An explanation for what? The packaging issue? I'm pretty sure they issued an explanation within 24 hours. If that's not good enough for you, you're just being a jerk.

inconsistent explanations for the problems,

I've only ever seen one explanation from Varese, referring to vague issues with the packaging which would be fixed. Anything else was speculation by people on this board.

inconsistent pricing issues,

This is completely untrue. I saw it the moment it went up and it was $25. One person thought they'd seen it at $20 but even they admitted they might be wrong. Literally every initial post about it at various message boards all copy and pasted a $25 price. Go look it up with the Wayback Machine or whatever if you don't believe me. You're. Such. A. (Bad.) Joke.

oh and the fact that this crappy release probably costs a pretty penny to fix and replace.

Um, so you're saying one of the reasons this is a crappy release is because FIXING a packaging error will cost Varese? Again, you just have mental problems I guess. Packaging errors have come from all labels, and sure it costs something to fix but that's the label's problem not yours so WHY is it something for you to complain about? You'll have a fixed copy a month later than you were supposed to.

You don’t think this is a complete disaster because you were able to put the tracks in the right order and got a credit for doing it. Super!

I did quite a bit more than that, but luckily I don't live for your approval. There was an error of some kind in the packaging (the only one we know about is minor). Varese is fixing it. End of story. Everything else you just pulled out of your ass. Weird credits is your complaint. LOL!

I bet if you had to fund this release, you’d have a different take. It’s no different than you being pissey about people wanting Golden Age releases and that labels shouldn’t have to fund them.

Get this through your thick skull: I WANT GOLDEN AGE RELEASES. I LOVE GOLDEN AGE RELEASES. IF ANY LABEL RELEASES ANOTHER ORIGINAL KORNGOLD RECORDING I WILL BE ECSTATIC. I have no issue with anyone wanting Golden Age releases. I have issues with people ATTACKING record labels for not releasing Golden Age titles which are likely to lose them money. That is the height of entitlement, to shame a label for not losing money over and over to make you happy.

This is literally the last time I will reply to you, no matter how much of an asshole you try to be. You are a toxic and worthless presence on this board and you offer literally nothing to the world of film music or the discourse here. I hope you're less of a waste of space in real life but I wouldn't be surprised if you were.

Dunno what you mean, but as soon as I figure out this board's block function I think I'll be cured of what ails me.

EDIT: Ah, done! All better. Never felt the need to use it before but this was the last straw.

I think it is hybrid. Byron confirmed to me a while ago. Also They have updated that it's a 2 channel stereo and 5.1 multi channel mix in the SACD format.

Varese recently updated the product page:

The Complete Edition Matrix soundtrack comes on two Hybrid SA-CDs (Super Audio CDs). These Hybrid SA-CD’s contain a CD layer that can be played on any CD player, and a hi-resolution SA-CD layer that contains DSD audio in stereo and surround versions. The audio on the SA-CD layer has been upsampled from 48 thousand samples per second 24bit PCM audio to 2.8 million samples per second 1 bit DSD audio. When these disks are inserted into an SA-CD player or a Blu-Ray player that can play SA-CD’s, you will hear up-converted hi-resolution DSD audio in stereo or surround and realize the sonic enhancement that comes from the up-conversion.

Ordered!

Hmmm...not sure about this up-converted stuff, but good to know it's a hybrid disc. I may get just for the ability to play in immersive multi-channel surround sound...

$15 upcharge for SACD is a bit nuts considering most SACDs are at most a couple bucks more than normal price (granted this isn't univerally true, but has been in general for the last ~15 years after the initial boom of stuff)

Yeah but I’ve definitely seen 2 SACD sets from classical labels like Chandos for $40.
