It's been three years since the last international tournament (if you don't count the Nations League shenanigans). As if we've not seen enough football this season, here's a new, bloated tournament (24 teams instead of 16) to catch your eye or bore you to tears. We kick off Friday 11 June. Be prepared for endless talk of Gazza's goal in the lead up to England vs Scotland. Group A: Turkey, Italy, Wales, Switzerland (games held in Rome/Baku) Group B: Denmark, Finland, Belgium, Russia (Copenhagen/St Petersburg) Group C: Netherlands, Ukraine, Austria, North Macedonia (Amsterdam/Bucharest) Group D: England, Croatia, Scotland, Czech Republic (London/Glasgow) Group E: Spain, Sweden, Poland, Slovakia (Seville/St Petersburg) Group F: Hungary, Portugal, France, Germany (Munich/Budapest) Games to be played all over Europe. Each group's games will be played in two cities. Right, okay, this is the right thread, not the wrong one. When did Scotland become a country? Did Nicholas Tree-Surgeon manage to float away from the English on a big raft, en route to Greenland, after all? More to the point, if England, Scotland, and those other bits of the UK (eg, Ireland) can play as part of Europe, why can't Brazil? I think the Brexiteers demand an explanation.
