Maranne ran Andre's restaurant in the Torquay in F T and when they did the gourmet night their chef got drunk, so Basil drove to the restaurant to collect meals from Andre. I guess that's nearly all the main creative talents from The Pink Panther films gone now when you think of it. Edwards, Mancini, Sellers, Lom, Kwuok, Niven, Stark, Plummer and now Maranne. The one thing that movies do....is freeze people and give them a funny kind of immortality where they never grow old. Maranne had a bit part as a Paris barman. The film follows “Rip Reardon” (Philip Carey), an ex-Army flier, as he returns to his home in French Morocco to find his wife dead. He suspects she has been murdered, but “Police Colonel Moussac” (Eugene Deckers) insists she committed suicide. Rip begins to suspect not only his friends but also a mysterious brunette, “Ynez” (Pier Angeli), a Casbah night-club singer with whom he begins to fall in love. Rudolph Maté directed the film, which has another unreleased score by Malcolm Arnold.    Posted:   Jul 25, 2021 - 1:17 PM     By:   Bob DiMucci   (Member) CARVE HER NAME WITH PRIDE deals with the true experience of Violette Szabo (Virginia McKenna), a young Englishwoman who became a resistance fighter in occupied France in 1944. Certain details of the story weren't divulged until just a decade ago, with the publication of Leo Marks' book "Between Silk and Cyanide." The film cemented the career of actress McKenna, best known to Americans as the star of BORN FREE. Of the 92 days she spent filming, McKenna only had two days off from the rigorous schedule, which included getting up at 5:30 each morning. The two days off were to marry Bill Travers (her eventual co-star in BORN FREE) and have a very brief honeymoon. Andre Maranne had a bit part as “Garnier,” a garage man, in the film. Lewis Gilbert directed the picture. It was filmed at the Walton Studios, Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, England. Romulus Films had bought the motion picture rights to Mackie's play, intending to film a co-production with Twentieth-Century Fox which would co-star Stewart Granger and his then wife, Jean Simmons. But the deal fell through, Donna Reed replaced Simmons, and the film ended up being released by Columbia. Andre Maranne had a bit part as a car owner. John Guillermin and Dan Cohen directed the film. Mischa Spoliansky provided the score, which was played by Johnny Dankworth and His Orchestra, as conducted by Lambert Williamson. Andre Maranne had a small role as a French radio officer in the film. Eugène Lourié directed and co-wrote the film with blacklisted writer Daniel James. Edwin T. The film told the story of a British girl's (Susannah York) awakening from childhood into life and love while on vacation in France with her sisters and brother. Danielle Darrieux played "Madame Zizi," the proprietor of the château-hotel on the River Marne where the children stay. André Maranne played “Monsieur Dufour” in the film. Kenneth More was asked by Gilbert to go on a diet before making the film in order that he be more believable as a romantic lead. The actor did so, as he badly wanted to be in the movie. DEFIANT flipped the script on MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY. On the titular ship, during the French Revolutionary Wars, fair-minded "Captain Crawford" (Alec Guinness) is locked in a battle of wills against his cruel second-in-command "Lt. Scott-Paget" (Dirk Bogarde) whose heavy-handed command style pushes the crew to mutiny. Guinness made the film during a two-month break in the shooting of LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, when the production moved from Jordan to Spain. Upon finishing this 1962 film, Guinness resumed his LAWRENCE role of "Prince Faisal." André Maranne played “Colonel Giraud” in the film. The film was director Lewis Gilbert's second for producer John Brabourne. When Columbia Pictures brought the film to the U.S. market, knowing that the initials "H.M.S." would carry little meaning for Americans, they re-titled it DAMN THE DEFIANT! Clifton Parker's score was released on a Colpix LP, which was re-issued on CD by Film Score Monthly in 2007. Burt Kwouk had a small role as an aircrew member, and André Maranne appeared as a French officer. Philip Leacock directed the film, which was based on John Hersey's novel. Richard Addisell's score has not had a release. THE WAR LOVER did below-average business at the U.S. box office, with a $3.1 million gross.    Posted:   Jul 27, 2021 - 11:22 PM     By:   Bob DiMucci   (Member) COME FLY WITH ME tells the romantic tale of three air hostesses (Dolores Hart as “Donna Stuart,” Pamela Tiffin as “Carol Brewster” and Lois Nettleton as “‘Bergie’ Bergstrom”) looking for husbands during a flight over the Atlantic from New York to Paris. Karl Malden (as recently widowed older millionaire “Walter Lucas”), Karlheinz Böhm [Karl Boehm] (as the diamond smuggler “Baron Franz Von Elzingen”), and Hugh O’Brian (as the plane’s womanizing pilot, “First Officer Ray Winsley”) are the more interesting men in the hostesses’ lives. It is O'Brian who gets involved with new stewardess Carol Brewster (Tiffin). André Maranne had a small role as a French hotel clerk. Henry Levin directed the MGM production. Lyn Murray's score, which was recorded in Britain, has not had a release. In the film, "Francois" is the assistant to “Chief Inspector Charles Dreyfus” (Herbert Lom). This second of “The Pink Panther” films found “Inspector Jacques Clouseau” (Peter Sellers) investigating the murder of the driver of “Mr. Benjamin Ballon” (George Sanders) at a country estate. Herbert Lom and André Maranne in A SHOT IN THE DARK Blake Edwards directed the 1964 comedy. Only two cues from Henry Mancini’s score have been released, on various Mancini compilations. A SHOT IN THE DARK was the #5 picture at the U.S. box office, with a $19.3 million gross.    Posted:   Jul 29, 2021 - 12:27 AM     By:   Bob DiMucci   (Member) In THUNDERRBALL, James Bond heads to the Bahamas to recover two nuclear warheads stolen by S.P.E.C.T.R.E. agent “Emilio Largo” (Adolfo Celi) in an international extortion scheme. André Maranne played a SPECTRE agent in the film. Terence Young directed the 1965 film. John Barry’s score was released on a United Artists LP. It was re-issued on CD by EMI-Manhattan Records in 1988. An expanded version of the score was released by Capitol/EMI in 2003. Various contemporary sources estimated a negative cost of $6.5—$8 million, making THUNDERBALL the most expensive Bond picture up to that time.
