MONDAY, MAY 3

1899---trailer released for the Netflix horror series set on a ship.

LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soj6bA35ABk

STAR TREK: PICARD---John de Lancie commented on returning as Q, “Q is coming back. As a matter of fact, for the last two weeks I have been filming on Picard and really annoying Picard – really annoying him. [laughs] Patrick was delighted to see me for the first couple of days and after a couple of more days of really annoying scenes, he said, ‘SO, how many episodes are you doing?’ In other words, ‘When are you going to get out of my face?’ And the answer is six episodes. I think they are going to be coming out – actually, I don’t know. But we are shooting season two and three all at the same time right now.”

TWILIGHT OF THE DEAD---movie underway based on the treatment for George A. Romero's fifth and last movie in the zombie franchise. The treatment was written by Romero and Paolo Zelati, who said, “Everything started with my question to him: ‘Where do the zombies go at the end of LAND OF THE DEAD?’ It is no secret that DIARY and SURVIVAL were not the way he envisioned the series ending, and George knew it very well. TWILIGHT OF THE DEAD was his goodbye to the genre he created and wanted to go out with a powerful film.”
Romero's wife, Suzanne, said: “I gave him my full blessing as long as I could be there every step of the way for it to remain true to George’s vision. We had a solid treatment and the beginning of the script. I can 100% say that George would be incredibly happy to see this continue. He wanted this to be his final stamp on the zombie genre…. while someone else will carry the torch as the director, it is very much a George A. Romero film.”

MIDNIGHT IN THE SWITCHGRASS---synopsis and photo released from the movie starring Bruce Willis, Megan Fox and Emile Hirsch, “While in Florida on another case, FBI agents Helter (Willis) and Lombardi (Fox) cross paths with state cop Crawford (Hirsch), who’s investigating a string of female murders that appear to be related. But when Lombardi herself is kidnapped, it’s a race against time before she becomes the serial killer’s next victim.”

MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE---Marvel announced the CAPTAIN MARVEL sequel title is THE MARVELS. The other sequel title is BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER.

LIGHTYEARS---Sissy Spacek and JK Simmons will star in this Amazon sci fi series described as, “The series follows Irene (Spacek) and Franklin (Simmons) York, a couple who years ago discovered a chamber buried in their backyard which inexplicably leads to a strange, deserted planet. They’ve carefully guarded their secret ever since, but when an enigmatic young man enters their lives, the Yorks’ quiet existence is quickly upended and the mysterious chamber they thought they knew so well turns out to be much more than they could ever have imagined.” Simmons replaced Ed O'Neill who left for personal reasons.

NIGHT COURT---NBC reboot of the 1984 sitcom is underway with John Larroquette returning as prosecutor Dan Fielding. Melinda Rauche will play Judge Abby Stone, daughter of Judge Harry Stone (Harry Anderson).

NCIS: HAWAII---Vanessa Lachey will play Jane Tennant, “the first female Special Agent in Charge of NCIS Pearl Harbor".

NBC---NBC renewed YOUNG ROCK and KENAN.

TRIVIA---more James Bond movie trivia.

Frobe and Auger later co-starred in TRIPLE CROSS, the biomovie about World War II MI5 double agent Eddie Chapman. TRIPLE CROSS was directed by Terence Young, who also directed THUNDERBALL, DR. That's the least you deserve Mr. Patrick for allowing your character and Star Trek name be dragged in the mud.

Captain Marvel was Ms. Marvel before they made her El Capitan.

They should call the miniseries "Picard 2.0", partly to denote it's the 2nd series but mainly to make clear he's literally a reboot, NOT the original Picard but a synthetic replicant fer crissakes. Kirk wouldn't be happy with the situation after dealing with Dr. Corby on Exo-III. Maybe Q will make Picard human again.

I hope they credit author Clifford Simak since it sounds like his Hugo award winning story "The Big Front Yard."

Patrick Stewart was a gosh darn genius when he did Star Trek Nemesis. He negotiated that nearly a quarter of the film's budget go directly to him, took part in the creative process as a producer and made mandates on what kind of action sequences he wanted to be in. In the end, he got everything he wanted at the cost of literally killing the franchise.

And now it's the old story all over again. He's in the freaking writer's room for god's sake and his favorite contribution was probably Picard going on about how he doesn't even like science fiction.

TNG's Q should be having the time of his life chastising Picard on how grossly incompetent and destructive humanity has become. Becoming foul mouthed uncaring xenophobes who were perfectly content to let a whole alien civilizations die out and will murder total strangers when simply given the order to. Not to mention treating their galactic saviors no better than hobos on the street in this day and age.

As I've mentioned everywhere else, Star Trek was never perfect, but it never stopped being a universe I wanted to live in. I want no part in Kurtzman's take on Star Trek. It's so freaking morbid.

While I feel the last two NGen films ruined the franchise, I didn't know Sir Patrick had any input. If true...

Then again, the above quote follows this line which might be how others feel. wink

When it comes to Patrick Stewart, the one area I admire about him is how he portrays characters that are written for THE CHARACTERS. When it's written for him, there's not a lot to admire.

Let me give you an example of two TNG episodes written by the same writer. 'The Inner Light' and 'Starship Mine'. The Inner Light deals with Picard living out a whole other life outside with an alien civilization that has been gone for a very long time. It's got wonderful production values, a very emotional payoff and an element of character development that is rarely seen in Star Trek. Starship Mine is Die Hard in space.

Which one is Patrick's favorite? I give you a hint. It's the one where he blows up the bad guys.

Have you ever read the book 'Fade In' by the late Michael Pillar? It details his work not only on Star Trek Insurrection, but also the history of his time writing on TNG. He covers everything from Gene's Box (A HUGE telling point on how Gene was detrimental to the show's success), how he got the job (Season 3's episode 'Evolution' was his first and he got the job because he baited Rick Berman with a character who loves baseball. You see, Michael knew how to play Rick Berman because he LOVES Baseball) and his dealings with Patrick Stewart. Star Trek Insurrection for example was supposed to be a story more geared towards the crew because Picard was going to be put on trial. An ambitious idea to say the least since this would allow other characters who are not Picard to have time in the spotlight and be able to figure out problems. Everyone was game for it... except Patrick. And with the success of First Contact, he was able to shift the story focusing on the crew to being a story that, again, focused on him. And wouldn't you know it? It features Picard doing more action oriented stuff again.

Go check it out. It's available free online and it's a nice send off to one of the writers who helped steer TNG onto the right path.

And if some of them will be lesbian, it would be the dream come true.

@ Jeyl

True, Piller did a lot of good for Star Trek. He was right about a lot of the structural barriers that Gene set up.

I wish that he had not died so young.

I read a lot of that unpublished book you are talking about.
I still like Insurrection quite a bit.

And if some of them will be lesbian, it would be the dream come true.

Check out the 'World of Wakanda' comic. Not only does it focus heavily on a f/f pairing, but they're also PREDATORS.
