@ Mr. Ostinato: Looks intriguing. A compilation of several artists?

It's a score for a 1963 Nikkatsu film known as "Alone Across the Pacific". It's composed by Yasushi Akutagawa and Toru Takemitsu.

Thanks! As the English text suggests, it is indeed a book. In fact, it's a 40 page paperback book. The CD is housed in a sleeve attached to one of the pages near the end of the book. While the text is obviously in Japanese, the book contains a wealth of valuable information, black-and-white production stills and scans of the cue sheets. The CD includes everything on the tapes, outtakes and all.

Seven Samurai Original Soundtrack (AK-0001) has arrived! I'm glad to finally have this iconic score.

@ Mr. Ostinato: Lovely, beautiful, mouthwatering even. From which retailer did you acquire your copy, if I may ask?

Just to let you know, the score isn't complete. There are a number of cues that are lost. However, the majority of the score survived and all of it is on the album. Fun fact, the album was released on October 1, 2001. So, the album will be turning 20 this year on the same day I turn 26!

I ordered it from SAE (same for my copy of "Red Beard"). It took a while for them to ship it though. I assume it was backordered and they in turn had to obtain more copies from Toho Music Corporation. Next month, I plan on ordering Sato's "Throne of Blood".

LOL! The photos often look like crap! The scans I make typically turn out better though.

Thanks. Off to SAE to check out the Japanese titles.

Edit: I can vouch for the scans. They're great.

You're welcome! They have a category for the Kurosawa scores. Thanks for the kind words regarding the scans!

I ordered Sato's "Throne of Blood" and "High and Low" from SAE on July 30th. I'm still waiting for them to ship, and I'm certainly looking forward to receiving them. I currently have a Kurosawa score obsession going on lately, hence a reason I've started buying them lately.

I've noticed that the Godzilla Showa-era soundtracks on iTunes now sport what look to be the same sepia-toned album covers as the Perfect Collection soundtracks. However, some of the track titles are different from the Perfect Collection, and instead they mirror the ones on the Waxwork LP set.

Does anybody know if the iTunes soundtracks are essentially from the Perfect Collection, or if they have some other source? Are they high quality remastered editions, or are they relabeled older editions? Thanks!

I don't do iTunes, so I really can't say. However, I assume they're from the Perfect Collection album masters.
