Regarding the CARRIE vocalist, Wikipedia and IMDb differ on the question of just who Katie Irving was:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrie_(1976_film)#Music

"Donaggio scored two pop songs ("Born to Have It All" and "I Never Dreamed Someone Like You Could Love Someone Like Me") with lyrics by Merrit Malloy for the early portion of the prom sequence. These songs were performed by Katie Irving (sister of Amy Irving and daughter of Priscilla Pointer)."

https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1619797/bio?ref_=nm_ov_bio_sm

"Katie Irving is the daughter of George S. Irving and Maria Karnilova. She is no relation to 'Carrie' actors Amy Irving or Priscilla Pointer, though they do have a sister/daughter named Katie."

Does anybody know who's right? Is there a credible source out there?

Haven't got a Scooby.
Sorry.
But I'm intrigued to know.
Love those songs. They're so painfully beautiful.
What a score.

You said it! It's been years now, and I'm still insanely happy that the Kritzerland CD contains the extended, film version of "I Never Dreamed." I never thought that would come out. And it's so good, with the instrumental section in there. I really savor it.

Regarding my question: if it turns out that nobody knows, I would put the greatest likelihood on there being only one Katie Irving, who was both the vocalist and Amy's sister. Reasons:

CARRIE was a like a friends and family project. The art director was Sissy Spacek's husband. Priscilla Pointer and Amy Irving played mother and daughter; they really were mother and daughter. There's a Cameron De Palma in the cast (kid on bike, good scene too), probably the director's nephew or something. So it doesn't seem like a stretch to think Katie Irving got in on her connections. The only wonder is that everybody was great, because they were.

It seems like a much bigger coincidence to say the film just happened to hire a Katie Irving, and she wasn't the Katie Irving in Amy and Priscilla's immediate family. [This could happen in theory, if Pino Donaggio thought he was doing the Irvings a favor, but accidentally hired a coincidentally named stranger to sing the songs.]

If I'm right, this means that the IMDb information is a lie. And that it follows an old liar's trick by putting in a level of detail that has you saying "No one would make that up."

An interesting question and I suspect your guess is probably a correct one, Zap. I don’t have any insight into the matter myself, but these songs are beautiful in both their vocal and instrumental forms and they really do capture Carrie’s personality and outlook, pre-prom and all.

Lee Gambin, who has written a book about the making of "Carrie," probably knows. He also seems like a forthcoming individual, so I'm sure if you reach out to him on Facebook he'll be happy to answer your question if he knows.

Thanks, that sounds promising. But I'm not on Facebook or Twitter. Any chance you could ask him?

Also, I found reference online to a promised book, but can't find the book itself. And this link
https://theoctobercountry.wordpress.com/2013/03/13/ryan-clark-on-the-making-of-the-making-of-carrie/

points to this
https://carriebook.wordpress.com/

which is a dead link.

But if someone could ask this guy about Katie Irving, that would be terrific.
