So far I only have the new GHOSTBUSTERS score and ELMER BERNSTEIN: THE CLASSIC SOUNDTRACK COLLECTION. BTW, are the bonus tracks on ELMER BERNSTEIN: THE CLASSIC SOUNDTRACK COLLECTION exclusive to that set?
The Ava Collection [Intrada] (contains Walk On The Wild Side, Carpetbaggers, To Kill A Mockingbird, among others) Themes From General Electric Theater [Intrada] OoP, but you can still find some retailers that have it. Heavy Metal- The Score [FSM] The Amazing Mr. Blunden [Intrada]
Could rattle off a dozen more (a lot of great stuff is OoP), but these have turned out to be my favorites from one of my all time favorites. I don't believe I've heard any score from him yet that I didn't enjoy.
Even Williams and Goldsmith have some clunkers for me, but not Bernstein for some reason.
I second "The Great Escape" (3 CD release) and would add "The Great Santini".
"The Ava Collection" is an absolute essential for "To Kill a Mockingbird," "Walk on the Wild Side," "The Carpetbaggers" and "The Caretakers" and a couple more. "Summer and Smoke" (Kritzerland) is also a magnificent score, cut from the same cloth as "Mockingbird".
Lots of amazing Elmer out there! Check SAE (including their stash of FSM and Kritzerland releases) for starters.
P. S. Avoid the Mainstream CD of "Baby the Rain Must Fall"/"The Caretakers." Horrid sound quality. Both albums are included in "The Ava Collection" with vastly superior sound quality.
THE TEN COMMANDMENTS and THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN obviously!
TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD and SUMMER AND SMOKE most definitely!
THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM absolutely!
Also
HAWAII KINGS GO FORTH SOME CAME RUNNING BIRDMAN OF ALCATRAZ THE COMMANCHEROS THE GREAT ESCAPE FAR FROM HEAVEN THE AMAZING MR. BLUNDEN GENOCIDE (if you can find it at a reasonable price!)
plus
BERNSTEIN by BERNSTEIN - Royal Philharmonic Pops Orchestra (Denon).
The Black Cauldron (I prefer the Intrada myself, but however you get this, get it!) Heavy Metal Slipstream The Amazing Mr. Blunden The Rainmaker McQ The Grifters Wild Wild West Marie Ward Genocide (not enough people talk about this due to the obscurity of the film and the soundtrack, but it really is one of his hidden masterpieces)
Lots of great shouts so far, and you can't really go wrong with Elmer B, but I don't think anyone has mentioned THE SCALPHUNTERS yet, which is a personal favourite of mine. I think it might be my favourite western score by him. THE GREAT SANTINI (already mentioned) is also brilliant. Don't miss that multi disc set from Varese of rejected scores (Natty Gann, Scarlet Letter, Gangs Of New York, A River Runs Through It). It's absolutely sublime too.

Thanks KeV, btw how are you feeling, are you getting better?

How I wish that was included too - but it has never been released, Kevin!
Definitely try to get the Intrada Edition of The Ten Commandments if you can find it for a decent price.
The Black Cauldron is a personal favorite of mine as far as Bernstein’s repertoire is concerned, so go for the Intrada as SBD suggested. Another favorite which I regrettably do not have is Hawaii.
1. Heavy Metal 2. Ghostbusters 3. To Kill a Mockingbird 4. From the Terrace 5. Love With the Proper Stranger 6. The View From Pompey's Head 7. The Miracle 8. See No Evil 9. Far From Heaven 10. Saturn 3
But I like or love every single Elmer Bernstein score I've heard.
