Hi, Mark.

All of the CPO Frankel discs already reside in my music collection, so I'm not looking to buy/trade ... but I am curious why you are selling your Frankel off?

I rank Frankel along with the best 20th century symphonists ... perhaps he's not your cup of favorite beverage?

Anyway, good luck with your sale/trades.

Hi Zardoz. They are actually second copies that I bought as part of a small collection. My own copies are sitting on my shelf, next to my beloved Howard Hanson collection - and probably like you, I will not be selling them!

Ps. I watched Night Train by Jerzy Kawalerowicz last week after spotting it on your top five films list. Very good film. So thanks for the 'tip'. I've watched a lot of Czech films recently. Last night I watched Witch Hammer (1970) which was excellent. A week ago I watched Daisies, which was as impressive as Chytilová's Something Different..... That is to say, both were rubbish, in my opinion. Vera Chytilová's has got to be up there with Godard as one of the most overrated directors. ( I like about half of his films, but the rest are pretentious claptrap imo. So when I see his name atop the list of the best directors and I remember La Chinoise (1967) my blood boils and I put on a Truffaut to calm me.)

Glad to read that Frankel's a keeper!
You may already know this - one of those CPO compilation albums on Frankel contains his Night of the Iguana.
It's curious to me why some British composers (Searle, Frankel, etc.) have been bypassed by Chandos and got picked up by CPO. Look how much William Alwyn or Malcolm Arnold is on Chandos - yet Chandos hasn't done any Searle or Frankel.

Since you have some allergic reactions to 'agitprop', you may want to stay clear away from music by Luigi Nono as well as avant-garde cinema. smile I think you would like, though, the Kawalerowicz Mother Joan of the Angels.

Thanks for those tips. Ive got a feeling I saw Mother Joan of the Angels a long time ago. Will try and see it again.

I guess Chandos just didnt think Frankel, Searle would sell as many units. Shame. I have an odd attitude which is that labels have an obligation to provide music not just make money..... I guess that's a bit crackers. I kind of like Soderbergh's approach to film making..... Make a box office hit then do a smaller film that can lose money. That approach to running a label like Chandos appeals to me.

Re Avant Garde cinema...... Hit and miss for me. Would love to say I like Stan Brakhage and Derek Jarman, but I'm not a fan of either, but love Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Bunuel..

Not a fan of Nono, but then I love John Cage, Eno, Walker, Sun Ra...... But not Terry Riley!

Always open to film tips. I'm a bit of a film buff but am always discovering new stuff director's I hardly knew before. I hsve just had a Bergman month and hsve been rewatching his movies. I think there are just a couple of his TV movies that I've not seen.
