Note the artwork looks a LOT like the art used for the 2019 Criterion Collection Blu-ray set of these films. This would make this an awesome companion set to that release -- if only it were more affordable...

What an unfortunate turn of events. A CD release of all this content would have moved entire oceans. Heck, I'll even take a digital release to enjoy this. 2021 sure started with a disappointment in the film score department for sure. Missed you have the Godzilla Perfect Soundtrack Collection it seems... And grasped the essence of Godzilla the "art" director on this project hasn't. Why the comic book style "art"? Ugly it is. In any case, the Godzilla Perfect Soundtrack Collection have not, thus far, been beat. However, it would be nice to make comprehensive - and somewhat affordable - sets for those who can't afford the original Toho sets.

Why would ANYONE want this? Seriously. They're all taken from the CD masters, so what's the allure? They have no bonus material and they'll sound no different to the CD releases. The CD box sets are amazing - I have all of them. People are nutty.

the music is less the appeal than the design of the packaging.

Meanwhile there's a thread with folks saying the Herrmann At Fox CD Box isn't worth anything because half of it has been re-released and who cares about the rest because there are earlier, inferior or partial releases. You don't have to be a "die hard collector" to see the cup is half-full and the Box is more than a collector's item. Anyway, my point being that there's just no pleasing people. They want the latest, the best, then they want the least, the worst. Suddenly the music contents doesn't matter. There's no predicting what is "collectible" anymore. But I digress... As for vinyl buyers, I understand the appeal of the tactile and artwork, but it's clearly a tradeoff in terms of music contents, sound quality and convenience. It's hard not to remember those drawbacks. Either way, it's a personal lifestyle choice and I suppose neither is right or wrong.

The CD box sets are amazing - I have all of them. People are nutty. If they're actually playing the vinyl, then I would think it's about the experience, the ritual, not about collecting additional music. Even with digital music, I'm more apt to play a lossless CD than a cdr with a million mp3. You need a boundary to delineate what a collection is. Call it "portion control." steffromuk, you did your best with the topic title and post. I understood what you meant. It's not debut music, it's for vinyl buyers. They don't even have to be "die hard collectors," which is probably a meaningless category when folks here consider the Herrmann Box worthless. It's like the various antique markets bottoming out because Generation XYZ doesn't value relics of the past. But maybe like vinyl, there will be a resurgence some day.
