I enjoyed it on it's initial broadcast run. TV Guide named Louie DePalma the greatest TV character ever created. I'm not sure I agree with that but Danny DeVito certainly made the most of his role. Christopher Lloyd was hilarious as the burned-out Jim. I never cared for Andy Kaufman.
I think I saw one or two episodes when it aired -- late at night -- on Norwegian TV2 back in the 90s. Didn't quite connect with me, but then I'm both too young and too Norwegian to relate much to this kind of stuff.
This show is now my favorite sitcom ever. I recently bought the series dvd set and just love it. It's very funny, the characters care about each other, it's well written, it's got heart and is just a great show. It did well at the Emmys over the years winning I think 18 including 3 for comedy series. It was nominated for best comedy series every season of it's six year run.
One of my all time favorite TV shows. Great characters, good writing, memorable and hilarious scenes, sometimes poignant, sometimes just funny as hell. Christopher Lloyd as Jim Ignatowski is one of the great sitcom characters ever.
