I found a reference to Irwin Allen's THE TIME TUNNEL in the oddest of places. This is a book written by a medical doctor on patients who have had near-death experiences. It was very influential and ground-breaking in it's time (published in 1975), so the case studies are interviews from the previous decade.
The book is still referenced and appears in the bibliography of almost every similar book or study since then.

"One woman who was near death following a traffic accident, drew a parallel from a television show.

"There was a feeling of utter peace and quiet, no fear at all, and I found myself in a tunnel - a tunnel of concentric circles. Shortly after that, I saw a T.V. program called THE TIME TUNNEL, where people go back in time through this spiralling tunnel. Well, that's the closest thing to it I can think of." "

Moody, Raymond A. LIFE AFTER LIFE. Bantam Books. New York, NY. 1975. Chapt.2, pp.33. The Experience of Dying.

None of the other subjects described "concentric circles", but all described a tunnel-like journey.
I have never seen TIME TUNNEL. Or any Irwin Allen TV show except LOST IN SPACE.

Is Lala Land releasing THE TIME TUNNEL this year? I prefer complete scores as opposed to highlights of many scores if they are listening in.
I think I will post you in the non-film score discussion since this discussion, if added to, could go in a non-film score direction.

I read that book back in the day (as a young teen), but I have no recollection of the details. Just google the TV show title and you'll get images of the time portal. When I was a pre-teen, I imagined it was more like a stretched metal spring, and it could work if it was vibrated a certain way.
No clues from MV if LLL is releasing the soundtrack.

Over 30 years ago I listened to a girl’s story in recovery. She had overdosed and died. She went down a long tunnel, met her deceased mom who told her it wasn’t her time and she had to go back. It was very matter of fact and a small part of her story. Not WOW I have something exciting to tell you! I talked to her afterwards because I had read the book and wanted to learn more about her experience. Can’t recall much now other than it felt real to her.

I heard a story on NPR a couple years ago about out-of-body experiences by air force jet pilots. They thought they were on the wing, and could see their body in the cockpit. Experimenters tried to induce it in those nauseating-looking centrifuges. It seems to be a real phenomena - I don't mean actually happening, but a mental state of misperception that can be achieved in certain circumstance. Maybe dying is one situation. It's a possible explanation for some odd jet fighter crashes.

The Out-Of-Body Experience is similar to the Near Death Experience only in as far as the perception of oneself appears to be outside the normal frame of reference. Many people have OBE without being near death or even trauma.
The pilots experiences appear to have more in common with nitrogen narcosis than OBEs or NDEs. For a good example of the effects of nitrogen narcosis or "The Raptures of the Deep", I recommend the STINGRAY episode ,"The Raptures of the Deep."
This episode should be shown to all navy and recreational divers. Music by Barry Gray.
In the episode Troy Tempest and Phones....

But - but - they're only wooden puppets. I don't see STINGRAY being used for training divers or pilots, unless they're GI Joe doll divers or pilots.

This is more of a reference to the "metaphysical" of the subject line than the TIME TUNNEL" of the subject line. But once again , our hobby appears in unusual places.

Smith, Susy: LIFE IS FOREVER: EVIDENCE FOR SURVIVAL AFTER DEATH. Dell Publishing, New York, NY. 1974
Chapt 9. Moments Musical. pp.90 .

This chapter involves music supposedly channelled or downloaded by deceased composers to recipients having little or no musical education. There are quotes by detractors as well as supporters. But this is the film music reference.

" There is no question that she is a very sincere woman. The music is absolutely in the style of those composers." Composer Richard Rodney Bennett said: "I've no doubt she's psychic. She's told me things about myself she couldn't have known about. I was having trouble with a piece of music and she passed along Debussy's recommendation - which worked... A lot of people can improvise but you couldn't fake music like this without years of training. I couldn't have faked some of the Beethoven myself."

The Time Tunnel design was brilliant. I don't have a clue how time travel would work, but that set made me think this is what the contraption would look like if it were real!

The Japanese released a plastic model kit of "The Time Tunnel".

In the special features to PREHISTORIC PARK they ask the props guy how they solved the time travel problem of bringing dinosaurs into the present. He said, "The same way Einstein did: a stick with a light on it".
Well, it was pretty funny when he said it. Marvelous score by Daniel Pemberton.

This is from the same book where the Richard Rodney Bennett quote was obtained, but I'm only getting around to posting this bit now.
Is anyone familiar with the music staff at MGM during this period? Was there an Edward Plantamura working in the music department there?
That's assuming Plantamura was his last name.

"...during the summer of 1972... One 3:00 am our co-researcher Clarissa Plantamura called out to her deceased husband Ed to come through to us if possible. Shortly after that we got a faint, high pitched, hurried statement that can be translated as either "Ed is here" or "Eddie's here". As the tape runs on you can hear Art ask Clarissa what Ed did for a living and her reply that he was the musical librarian for MGM Studios. Just then comes the tiny voice again, saying, "Symphony". "

I agree. Even as a kid I thought the show was pretty bad but the design of the tunnel, and the whole aTick Tock complex, was stunning. Some of the matte work from the pilot was outstanding.
