Yes, by all means, get the French Collection, if you don't already have it, and do your best to avoid hearing the third score, which is on disc two.

I'll put in a recommenation for APOCALYPSE NOW. The samples really didn't grab me when it first came out, but I found it recently in a used bin and got to listen to the whole thing before buying. It's really hard to convey the album experience with samples because so much of its effectiveness is in creating a mood and that involves letting it play out. YMMV but I had an entirely different experience with it when I was able to listen to full tracks.

Yeah, that's the way I feel about it too.
The entire album is more effective than just the sum of it's individual cues would imply.
