Still a fun, watchable show with lots of good music, but now I stumbled upon this:

Do any of you here know anything about these releases? I know there's an FSM release. How do they differ?
I have one of those CDs, but the quality isn't as good as the FSM/Varèse album. It seems it is pressed directly from the tapes onto disc without editing and remastering. Besides the tracks are often quiet short, that means you listen to tracks from 20 seconds to one minute a lot of tracks along. On the other side you have complete scores to many "Knight Rider" episodes. Meanwhile, as far as I know, they are only available via download or USB-sticks.
What I do not understand: how Don Peake managed it to distribute and sell his music? Phillips and other composers had always problems with Universal.

I've noticed that composers who release from their own person tapes seem to be able(?) to release them on "not authorized for retail sale" private labels. A lot of Joe Harnell's scores from V, The Incredible Hulk and The Bionic Woman were released that way. Dennis McCarthy's V: The Final Battle and a sample CD of his work from the subsequent series also had the same sort of releases (and I'm still holding out hope for a release of V episodic scores). I don't know how this works with the legality of it, but since we know about it, I'm sure WB/NBC/Universal is more than aware.

Yikes - what a fantastic website! 27 scores....!
Does anyone know the format of these digital files? I downloaded one of the samples and it's.... MP3.... (beggers can't be choosers, I suppose!)
i hope they are lossless files
Man, i wish Jan hammer and tim truman did the same for Miami Vice, just dump all the episode recordings online!
i would pay good money!

Oh yes, if only more composers did that with their scores...
To quote from the website:

The legendary Don Peake played with such musical greats as The Jackson Five, Ray Charles, Smokey Robinson and The Supremes, but fans of "Knight Rider" know him best as the composer for 77 episodes of "Knight Rider". Don has released a number of these musical scores over the last 15 years, but many episodes have not been available to the public - until now! KITT STILL ROCKS has been working with Don over the last 6 months to digitize 27 previously unreleased episodes, and this is one of them! Each musical cue from the episode has been extracted, cleaned up and labeled in chronological order, so you can follow the music in the order it was played in the episode! As an additional bonus, we've included snippets, where available, of things you didn't hear in the episode - such as scene intros (Production #, Take #) and outros ("Save it!"). Hearing these additional bits adds a whole other layer to the fantastic work that Don did on the show.

Between unmastered cues, incomplete episode scores (at least one missing a big chase cue), studio chatter ("one m one take two"), and just poorly-executed volumes, I seriously hope for good-quality sets of scoring, and the inclusion of Morton Stevens' one effort for the series ("Deadly Maneuvers").
